[JAPAN] Best and Affordable Lunch Set at Hyoki Restaurant, Roppongi – Tokyo

On the 10th day of our holiday in Japan, I’ve set up a schedule to have lunch at Hyoki Restaurant, located in Nishiazabu, Roppongi area, Tokyo. It was not hard to find this restaurant, even without an internet connection in our mobile phones. While we’re still in our hotel room that has a WIFI connection, we’ve prepared a screenshot of the map location of the restaurant that we saw from google maps. To reach HYOKI Restaurant, simply ride TOEI Ooedo Line using the PASMO / SUICA card for the train (—> check out our Transportation Travel Tips <—) and get off at Roppongi Station, take exit 4B. Then easily follow the screenshot map, take a short walk about ten minutes, and here we are!

As I mentioned earlier in my complete Backpacking Itinerary 2 Weeks in Japan, there are lots of Japanese Restaurants which offer a great LUNCH SET with an affordable price compare to dinner menu. Hyoki is one of them! Hyoki Restaurant offers Japanese traditional architecture design where all the seating is in private Japanese-style rooms with tatami flooring. So we had to take off our shoes and put into small lockers that provided in the front area.

Pssst, as usual.. Japanese Tea (Hot or Cold Ocha) or Mineral water is AVAILABLE FOR FREE in many restaurants in Japan

All the waiters here are mostly pretty young woman dressed in a traditional Kimono with their traditional hospitality. Most of them cannot speak English, and they don’t even have an English menu. My husband finds a little bit hard to read the Kanji word on the menu; he can only read some of them. Lucky there was one of the young ladies who can speak a little bit of English; she helped us, and we finally ordered two different lunch sets

There was this funny conversation between us and this young lady, because she understands and can speak a little of English, while my husband understands and can speak a little of Japanese. Click PLAY Button to see the Video from our YouTube Channel. The Jazz rhythm playing at the restaurant is so soothing and pleasant to hear.

I felt so happy as this was our first real traditional Japanese lunch. We had these amazing lunch sets for only ¥926 per set (before 10% tax)! As a comparison, the other restaurants in Japan are usually subject to 8% service charge. Anyway, it’s really worth it as Hyoki offers a great lunch set (only for weekdays) with high-quality ingredients in Nishiazabu, Roppongi area, Tokyo.

Each Lunch Set served with rice, sunny side egg, miso soup, pickles and seasonal fruit. The portions may look small in the photo, but is quite filling, and I was not able to finish my lunch set alone. My husband was glad to finish them all. 😀

Butano Kakuni Lunch Set

Butano Kakuni means Japanese Braised Pork Belly. The pork belly has been braised until tender and glazed in a braising liquid made from dashi (Japanese sea stock), mirin, soy sauce and sugar. The layer of the fat and meat of the pork belly ends up with a gloriously moist, tender, and juicy chunks that floods into my mouth with a wonderful rich flavor in each bite.

Pork Hari Hari Jitate Lunch Set

The thinly sliced pork with plenty of fat served with Dashi-Shabu, which is a special broth in Hyoki. The broth tastes slightly salty and very tasty! You can also squeeze a lemon to give a refreshing taste to the broth.
