[JAPAN TIPS] Cycling Around and Explore Wonderful Temples in Kyoto

As I said before, I will share our great and fun cycling moments in Kyoto, which I experienced together with my husband a few weeks ago from our vacation. I loved being in this city because I can explore many sites in Kyoto easily by bicycle, and I got the opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese lifestyle with tatami floors and futon beds when we stayed in Kanko Ryokan Hotel Omiya for three days and two nights. Oh well, I will share about how nice to stay in this hotel later on soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

Meanwhile, I would like to encourage you to set your itinerary to visit Kyoto while you’re in Japan. WHY? Because here, they have a lot of beautiful and stunning temples which you would not find while you’re in the big city, such as Tokyo. I mean; Tokyo also has lots of temples, but they are completely different!

So, I suggest you to pay a visit to Kyoto first before you see some temples in Tokyo.

I'm so ready to explore Kyoto by Bike - by Myfunfoodiary

Just arrived at Kinkaku-ji (The Golden Pavilion) Temple and park our bike nearby the temple.

I would never forget the stunning golden reflection shimmering on the pond of Kinkaku-ji Temple (The Golden Pavilion).ย  See the uniqueness and the famous of thousands of bright red Torii gates that wind through the hills of the Fushimi Inari-Taisha, which is also one of the must-visit shrines in Kyoto. We both drink the holy water that came out directly from the Otowa Waterfall at Kiyomizu-Dera Temple where it’s said have a different benefit. And not to forget, we took a refreshing walk in the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. We also explored the famous Ponto-cho Alley where many geisha houses and traditional tea houses are there. This area considered as the most beautiful street in the city. Yes, I agreed with that! It was so beautiful with colorful lights, lampions, yet it was too crowded when we were there!

If you have the same passion with us, to visit these lovely and must-visit places in Kyoto, then the best way to explore them is by Bicycle. There are many bike rental places in Kyoto. I’m not saying that you can’t reach those places by train, but we’ve done a lot of research before leaving Jakarta. Those temples are located far from the nearest station that they have, and after that, you still have to walk through the uphill road, or take a bus or taxi to get there. You will need approximately extra 20-40 minutes to reach those temples. But by BIKE, you can easily mobile from one place to another, save some transportation cost, and save more time so you can explore other places.

I bought some cute cat called Maneki-Neko (beckoning cat) at one souvenir shop in Kiyomizu-Dera Temple. It’s a Japanese common cat figure which often believed to bring good luck to the owner.

Usually I’m only able to enjoy a morning bike ride in Jakarta, because after 9.00 am the air is full of pollutants from vehicles, but when cycling in Kyoto all feel different. In this city, we do not get tired easily because the air is VERY CLEAN, and even though we were not wearing a full face mask, dust does not get into our eyes. No kidding, guys! You’ll fall in love with this city!
