[NEW BRANCH] Korean Brunch at Seorae Flavor Bliss, Alam Sutera

Seorae (read: “so-re“) Indonesia has opened their second outlet since end of July 2014 in Flavor Bliss, Alam Sutera after succeeding with Seorae PIK (first outlet). Seorae is a franchise restaurant brought from South Korea, where they started its business in Seoul in April 2007. In just three years since it opened, more than 250 outlets have been opened in South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and of course, Indonesia. Seorae Indonesia brought the concept of affordable luxury Korean Food with Seorae way. Not only good presentation and authentic taste, but they also offer a new experience for everyone to enjoy the taste of Korean Barbeque, with its signature dish is Galmaegisal meat which is listed as the expensive meat, at affordable prices.

The friendly owner, Astrid, who invited us to have lunch with them last week, tells a lot about the journey of Seorae in Indonesia. This restaurant turned out to be a favorite, especially among young people of Jakarta. Astrid allowed us to try some of Seorae’s signature dishes, such as Galmaegisal, Woosamgyeob, Samgyeopsal, Sundubu Jjigae, Bulgalbi, and Kimchi Bento Box. While waiting for the meat, Seorae served us with 6-7 different small dishes at the beginning of the meal, from kimchi to bite-sized of caramelized cassava, Korea‘s mini pancake, and vegetables that were delighted to sample. We called it the Banchan that is served in many Korean restaurants.

Galmaegisal, IDR 84.8K - non halal

Galmaegisal is Seorae‘s signature dish. Pork skirt meat marinated in their authentic secret Korean spices, then grilled into perfection. Referred to as Skirt Meat, where each fully-grown pig only produces 250 grams of this sirloin-extension. This part is a rare cut of meat located near the pig’s diaphragm, strictly belongs to the Korean royalty in the past, but now we can enjoy it in Seorae. This type of meat is very meaty and not as fatty as other cuts of pork. It is also super duper juicy, tender, and has a delicate flavor! A must try!!

Spicy Galmaegisal, IDR 89.8K - non halal

Besides the original flavor of Galmaegisal, you can also choose the Spicy Galmaegisal if you want something spicy for your meal, but for me, this meat is not spicy at all. However, the super juicy meat of Galmaegisal is something that you shouldn’t miss in Seorae!! A must try!

Sundubu Jjigae, IDR 54.8K - non halal

Sundubu Jjigae, that made by Seorae, has become one of my favorite hot and spicy Korean stew ever for now. It’s usually made with tofu, seafood (mussels, clams, or shrimps), mixed with vegetables and gochujang (chili powder), served with an authentic Korean jigae clay pot to keep the soup warm in the room temperature. In Seorae, this Sundubu Jjigae also contained slices of pork meat (non halal), but you can request for Beef version (halal). I loved the spicy fragrant from the soup. Though the broth is quite spicy, but the savory and creamy taste of the sundubu is so comforting. Recommended!

Bulgalbi, IDR 179.8K - halal - NEW MENU

Bulgalbi, a Korean style Beef Ribs, is part of a new menu at Seorae. It’s a mixture of Bulgogi (thinly sliced BBQ beef) and Kalbi (BBQ beef short ribs). These succulent ribs were cut into thin strips of meat, tastes juicy and super tender! Don’t forget to dip in the meat into the Samjang sauce (the red sauce). What a great delicacy!

Kimchi Bento Box, IDR 54.8K

If you’re looking for something simple and flavorful, you can try this Kimchi Bento Box. An authentic Kimchi Fried Rice with a little bit of spicy and tangy flavors, topped with fried egg and crispy nori seaweed. Sometimes I find kimchi a bit strong, but not in this one. It tastes really good! Perfect for a quick meal on-the-go!

Woosamgyeob, IDR 139.8K - halal

Soft and juicy thin sliced beef belly, marinated overnight, then grilled to bring out the juiciness. This kind of meat has a lot of fat, that’s why it’s more tender. It also has a unique sweet taste which derived from fruit juice marinade. A must try!

Tteokkochi, IDR 79.8K - non halal - NEW MENU

Tteokkochi is also a new menu at Seorae. It’s a fun combination of the authentic tteobokki, grilled and wrapped with Pork Bacon then covered with sweet and sour gochujang sauce. The grilled paprika in between the tteokkochi smells good, the sauce was not too thick and it gave a right combination to the bacon.

Three Musketeers - non halal - NEW MENU

Three Musketeers is also a new menu at Seorae, consist of three flavors of Samgyeopsal; Original, Spicy, and Hangari (marinated in sweet sauce). I’ve heard that in Korea, Samgyeopsal is eaten more frequently than any other part. Now, I know why! These thicker strips of unsalted bacon (pork belly) have a lot of fatty areas. It was the most sinful part of my lunch that day, but for me, it’s also the best part! It’s very juicy and tender, best eaten with some hot sauces, then wrap them in the lettuce leaves. So delicious! A must try!

Pat Bing Soo, IDR 50K

Last but not least, a popular Korean summer dessert to end our meaty lunch, with Pat Bing Soo; a Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet red bean paste, topped with various fresh fruits. It’s well-presented like a huge snow mountain decorated with colorful fruits, and sweet creamy condensed milk. Tastes refreshing!

Overall, we’re truly delighted with all these Korean BBQ meats. Either pork or beef meat, we really enjoyed them so much! Friendly staff, comfortable place and affordable price for all these luxury Korean BBQ food, makes me want to return to this restaurant. There’s no doubt, for me, Seorae Indonesia is one of the most affordable Korean restaurants in Jakarta with the best quality imported meat from US and imported ingredients directly from Seorae Korea. Let’s grill in Seorae way!
