[NEW POST] My All Time Favorite Indonesian Cuisine at Tesate Restaurant

Tesate has become one of my favorite restaurants over the years since their first outlet opened in 2008 at Mall Plaza Senayan. Two years later they expanded and opened their second branch in Pacific Place Mall. I often visit both branches with my working colleagues and family back then, but this time I visited their third branch, which opened in 2012 at Sam Ratulangi, Menteng, South Jakarta. There are so many choices of Indonesian Cuisine restaurants in Jakarta and among so many, I’m reminded of this Tesate Restaurant. It’s located right in front of the gas station, which is not far from the Theresia Bus Stop in Menteng.

This branch looks different because this restaurant has two floors, very spacious, not at the mall, unlike other branches. Here, Tesate offers modern, cozy and sophisticated high-end Indonesian restaurant where visitors can enjoy several different dining areas. The traditional Javanese ornaments, lanterns decorated with Java script and Gamelan music comes in an elegant way that makes everyone feel comfortable. A relaxed atmosphere in a semi-outdoor area on the first floor with glass to glass walls gives a warm feeling, feels like we’re in Bali. A different dining atmosphere can also be found in the basement area where several VIP room has a fish pond next to the window glass. Fresh flowers that are placed on the dining table makes the room has a beautiful scent. While on the second floor is used for private events, such as reunion, office events, meetings, birthday party and more.

White Tea, IDR 35K

I know that a white tea contains more antioxidants and less caffeine than green tea. That’s why I chose this pale-looking Indonesian premium tea to accompany my meal that day. Its pleasant aroma from the tea also good for a stress relief.

Kopyor Siam Orange, IDR 58K

If you want something even fresher, you should try this Kopyor Siam Orange, one of Tesate favorite’s drinks. A very refreshing drink made of fresh orange juice with slices of kelapa kopyor. Love it!

Sate Ponorogo, IDR 65K (mixed)

As its restaurant name, Tesate Restaurant is famous for a variety of satay menus. Sate Ayam Ponorogo has become our most favorite menus whenever we visit Tesate. Juicy chicken meat in a sweet marinade, served with buttery peanut sauce. Their homemade peanut butter sauce is very special, truly delicate and so tasty! I’m hooked!

Ikan Bakar Dabu Dabu, IDR 198K

Sambal Dabu Dabu is a specialty from Northern Sulawesi (Manado), and I was tempted to try it since Dabu Dabu now becomes a favorite across Indonesia. A whole sea bass, grilled to a flawless golden crisp and served with the Celebes salsa of red and green Bird’s eye chili. Not to forget, red and green fresh tomatoes and sweet shallots also complement this menu. The medium-size fresh fish presented wonderfully, while the combination of sour and spicy flavors from the sambal Dabu Dabu tasted so delicious!

Gule Sengkel, IDR 106K

Succulent lamb shank slowly cooked until tender in a light green curry. The green curry has a nice flavor with the right amount of curry paste and coconut cream that is not too creamy. The meat fell off the bone easily, and it had a great flavor! It was another hearty meal, can be share up to three persons.

As we all know, Tesate Restaurant has been known as a place where people can experience the richness of Indonesia’s culinary diversity where a wide selection of traditional dishes with Indonesian herbs and spices used. Under the same management with Sate Khas Senayan, Tesate Restaurant present in the form of a more luxurious and elegant version, of course, with a different presentation, the menu and the price is also different. Tesate obviously serves more types of Indonesian traditional menu, enticing local and foreign patrons alike with its taste. With all the good quality and delicious taste of Indonesian food, friendly staff, great service and luxurious atmosphere where I cannot find in anywhere else, I recommend you to visit Tesate Restaurant.
