If you’re crazy in love with Barbie and everything with pink color, you may visit the Barbie Cafe, which opened in early 2013 in Taipei, Taiwan. There are numbers of popular theme restaurants in Taiwan, such as Modern Toilet Cafe, Hello Kitty Sweets Kitchen and Cafe, and now, Barbie Cafe. The cafe is quite easy to spot. You will see a pink-colored store under a huge screen. It’s located near the Zhong Xiao Fu Xing station (exit 3), and just 5 minutes walk from the Hello Kitty Sweets Kitchen and Cafe. I’ve been there and successfully visited all of them when we had our summer holiday in August 2013.
Luckily, all the food served in those themed restaurants was pretty good, and delicious, but among three of them, Barbie Cafe was one who impressed me a lot! That’s what I’m going to share with you right now. Thanks to my readers who reminded me to keep continue what I’ve started about the Taiwan post before. Cuteness overload as we stepped into the Barbie Cafe, which is licensed by toy giant Mattel. Here we can see lots of hot pink sofas, tables shaped like high-heeled shoes and chairs decked out with tutus. Staff also wear pink Barbie logo T-shirts matching with cute tutus, Barbie armbands, glitter and tiaras. Not only that, but the shade of the walls, booths, and menus are also represented in pink color.
Barbie‘s face surrounded by beautiful bling-bling ornaments displayed on the wall. I was very excited, so we had loads of time to stop and took pictures with most of the Barbie‘s decorations before the food is prepared. Yay! 😀
Everyone was required to order a minimum of NT300 without exception. It has become a common provision in any themed restaurant in Taiwan. The same thing happened when I visited the Modern Toilet Cafe, and Hello Kitty Sweets Kitchen and Cafe. Since I visited this restaurant together with my husband and mother-in-law, we had to order at least NT900 (NT300 x 3). To make it simple, we ordered 2 set menus where each set menu consists of FREE salad, soft bread, and soup with a choice of appetizers, main dishes, drinks and desserts. Dinner Set Menu is available from 17:30 until 21:00.
Soft 'Barbie' Bread - complimentary
Small 'Barbie' Salad - complimentary
Creamy Corn Soup - complimentary
This soup was creamier and tastier than the one we had in Hello Kitty Sweets Cafe in Taiwan.
Smoked Duck Breast - appetizer
Thin slices of duck meat served cold with pieces of onion on it. Simple, and delicious.
Truffle Salmon Mousse - appetizer
It was a wonderful appetizer I’ve ever tasted so far. This salmon mousse with truffle oil certainly has the indulgence factor where the taste and scent of truffle remind me of one fine-dining menu I had in Jakarta.
Philadelphia Fillet Steak Salad - main course
The Philadelphia fillet steak was so tender and juicy, served with crusty bread, sliced egg and fresh vegetables with lemon dressing. We’re satisfied with the taste, although the portions are not filling.
Asparagus Mushrooms Risotto - main course
I love risotto and surprisingly, this main dish also tasted really good. Perfectly cooked risotto with creamy and tasty sauce, served with crusty bread filled with tomatoes, chopped pineapple, and smoked beef inside. This dish gets the balance between delicacy and fresh Spring flavors. Love it!
Barbie Classic Choco Honey Toast, NT 250
I saw almost every table ordered this toasted bread, so we tried it. A large box-shaped toasted bread with Barbie logo is indeed interesting. Nice presentation and the flavor were also delicious. Chocolate ice cream with chocolate cream on top of the bread served with chunks of fresh fruit and Barbie macaroon.
Vanilla Ice Cream - complimentary
At first I didn’t put so much expectation, but surprisingly all the food was great, so much better than the other two themed restaurants in Taiwan. Good service, friendly staff, and the overall experience are great. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone who ever dreams to visit Barbie‘s place where everything is pink. For all the Barbie fans out there, you should be here.
