[NEW BRANCH] Song Fa Bak Kut Teh at The Jayakarta Food Place, West Jakarta

We visited Song Fa Bak Kut Teh Singapore newest branch located at The Jayakarta Food Place, West Jakarta a week after its opening in early November 2014. This place is more spacious than the first outlet in PIK (Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta) area, so it’s more convenient without having a long queue to eat the famous Pork Ribs Soup which originally from Song Fa Singapore. The location is also strategic, next to the LTC Building. Even better, when you’re craving for the pork ribs with the peppery soup at midnight time, just come to Song Fa Bak Kut Teh Jayakarta Food Place. They can serve you until 1 o’clock in the morning (every day), plus, you can have your breakfast at Song Fa Jayakarta Food Place starts from 8am every Sunday. That’s nice!

Chinese Tea, IDR 35K

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh offers three selections of Chinese Tea flavor, Jasmine, Oolong, or Ti Kuan Yin. Ordering Chinese Tea in Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is slightly different from elsewhere because they serve it in a traditional way through plenty of pouring steps.

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is known for its Teochew-style Bak Kut Teh. The signature dish is the three meaty pork ribs in flavorful pepper soup, but here you can also taste some other favorite dishes. From the soup dishes category, the pig’s liver soup, pig’s stomach soup, and pork tenderloin are our favorite. All the soup is the same. The peppery level is mild so everyone can enjoy the soup, and the waiters will regularly refill your bowl with hot soup. The white pepper taste is quite comforting, especially during a rainy day like nowadays. You can even press the big white garlic to make it more flavored and aromatic.

Not to forget, all the soup dishes are best eaten with Cakwe (dough fritters) by dipping it into the soup. The soup tastes so comforting and delightful!

Besides the soup category, they also served braised dishes. If you are an adventurous foodie, try the chewy and bouncy texture of those braised pig intestines. It’s tasty, but I loved the braised chicken feet even more.

To balance our meal, they also offer a wide selection of side dishes. Some vegetables, such as the best-seller salted vegetables and Xiao Bai Cai are recommended. Instead of having a white rice for lunch, I replaced it with Mee Sua (a typical of Chinese noodle made with wheat flour). Vegetables are blanched and tossed in sesame oil, garlic and soy sauce. Simple yet delicious!

Almond Pudding, IDR 22K

Last but not least, we enjoyed the Almond Pudding that is served with fresh fruits. It’s a great choice to end our heavy meals that day.

Overall, both of us loved the flavor of the meaty pork ribs in light peppery soup, better than the herbal version from another restaurant that usually comes in brown color and a strong herbal aroma in it. Each or any the pork soup can be different from one place to another. However, it’s a personal taste. If you love pork ribs and looking for a tasty, comfortable meal with a light peppery clear soup, then you have to try Song Fa Bak Kut Teh Jakarta.
