[KULINER BALI] Brunch and Coffee at The Fat Turtle, Seminyak

When you’re around Seminyak (Bali) and look for a good breakfast, brunch, or coffee, I suggest you to visit a new hangout place called The Fat Turtle which just opened two weeks ago, on November 28, 2014. The Fat Turtle is a new cafe located right next to the Deus Ex Machina. I know this place from the Bali Foodies IG account, thanks to them! Yay! At first we had a little trouble finding this place because the signboard is too small and not clearly seen. By the time we felt we got lost and wanted to go back to the other way, I accidentally see the writing of The Fat Turtle on their glass window. Oh, thank God! Finally, here we are! You can easily find The Fat Turtle by looking at below pictures; The Fat Turtle located in between W Hotel Bali (W Retreat & Spa Seminyak) and before Potato Head Seminyak, Bali.

Although the cafe isn’t big, but the industrial concept and the turtle murals on the wall make the atmosphere become homey and comfortable for everyone to visit. Not only industrial look, but they also use of second-hand goods on the furniture to create a vintage look. Used sacks of coffee used as a sofa cover, and old sewing tables are used as a dining table at this place. I’m pretty sure, the sofa on below image will soon be everyone’s favorite spot to take pictures. Just like what I did, perhaps? 😀

Cafe Latte, IDR 23K

The Fat Turtle specializes to serve brunch and coffee. We tried their cafe latte that morning. All the coffee is using house blend Sumatra coffee with a pretty low bitter taste. This one has a fine aroma comes from the coffee with a nice latte art on it. Love it!

Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict, IDR 55K

I love eggs benedict that’s why I was tempted to try this one at The Fat Turtle. I got Pulled Pork Egg Benedict, which was served in a pretty large portion of marinated pulled pork, Pico de Gallo, and Jalapenos, over the toasted bread with two poached eggs and a lime hollandaise sauce. I enjoyed every bite of this dish, and the best moment is when the egg yolks break at the first cut, so it mixes nicely with everything.

Red Velvet Pancake, IDR 45K

Breakfast with Red Velvet Pancakes isn’t weird anymore, especially for those of you who like sweet dishes, you must try the Red Velvet Pancake they made. It’s one of their signature dishes. I loved the fluffy textures of the pancake, which is served with rich and creamy cream cheese topping, Chocolate Soil and Honeycomb on top. The cream cheese tasted a little bit sweet and not too sour because it’s sweetened with caramel. It was love at first bite for me! Not only the presentation, but the taste also wonderful!!

Before leaving this place, Natasya as the owner, came and asked us how was the food. She’s very friendly, and we talked for a while. She was working as a chef for four years in Melbourne, and before that she worked in Singapore as a chef too. No wonder, she got the skill to do everything on her own for her cafe. Last but not least, thank you Natasya for the complimentary dessert. White Russian is one of their best-seller desserts. Choco cookies with vodka and Kahlua mousse and topped with cocoa powder. It tasted great, but it has a quite strong alcohol flavor. If you’re an alcoholic fan, this is a must try!

I just figured out that they are having a special promotion where visitors can get a 20 % discount off for every food purchase during December 2014 when I pay the bill. The bill was put in a cute minimalist cage like below picture, ha-ha.. Nice! From overall experience, we loved all the food and drink. The cozy ambiance, attentive staff, and friendly owner make us want to come back again to The Fat Turtle. Don’t forget to pay a visit to The Fat Turtle if you’re on a vacation or having a business trip to Bali.
