Kemang area in South Jakarta is rich with its culinary destination, and we stopped by to Brown Bag Kemang a few weeks ago to seek brunch there. It was not difficult to find this cafe because the location is right on the Adorama Plaza, which also provide enough parking space for visitors. Right on the second floor, we can find the Brown Bag’s signboard clearly displayed in two separate areas; smoking and non-smoking area. With a homey nuanced design combined with wood accents, Brown Bag seems simple, yet still offering comfort to diners. I instantly liked the calm atmosphere and the easy-listening jazz lounge music played in this cafe.
Brown Bag Cafe provides a fairly complete menu: a variety of sandwiches, appetizers, main courses and, of course, a wide selection of coffee. For coffee, Brown Bag provides a single origin coffee and also house blend coffee, but my husband wanted to sip something cold and refreshing. That’s why I ordered Brown Bag Iced Coffee for him; a single shot of rich, full-bodied espresso poured with cold chilled milk with a touch of sweet vanilla ice cream on top. It was simply a perfect addition to our summer afternoon!

Hot Chocolate, IDR 32K
I wanted something hot and comforted that day, so I looked for a cup of classic hot chocolate for myself. I tried this and loved it too! A creamy blend of four parts of textured milk and rich chocolate topped with chocolate powder. It’s served with a marshmallow. Nice!
Beef BLT Sandwich, IDR 52K
Brown Bag Cafe has been known for a variety of delicious sandwiches, so I decided to try some of them. The beef BLT sandwich is one of their specialty sandwiches, filled with a combination of crispy beef bacon, fresh crisp lettuce, and tomato, served in classic focaccia bread. Even without melted cheese inside, the sandwich still tasted delicious. It’s probably because of the fresh vegetables in the bread as well that made us enjoyed it.
Egg Benedict Sandwich, IDR 46K
I have enjoyed the eggs benedict many times, but that day I tried something else, a bit different at Brown Bag Cafe. Here, Egg Benedict served with focaccia bread, stuffed with smoked chicken, perfectly poached egg, and covered with warm and creamy Hollandaise sauce. The fresh salad was also served on the side. Though it looked simple, but all the combination tasted delicious. This sandwich could be an ideal dish for a late-morning kickoff.
We didn’t try any fancy food here, but we liked all of them. We also enjoyed the cozy atmosphere while reading the newspaper, listening to the music played and talked to each other. They have a wide variety of food, and we probably come back again to try some of the main dishes; classic pasta, some Asian food, steak, fish and chips, etc. All food and drinks are provided at an affordable price, for sandwiches ranging from IDR 48.000, and beverages ranging from IDR 30.000. If you’re looking for good sandwiches around Kemang, you might want to try Brown Bag!
