[NEW POST] Romantic France Dinner at Lyon Restaurant, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta

Lyon Restaurant has been known as a notable French restaurant located in the heart of Jakarta, in Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. The minimalist decor with checked floors, cane-back chairs, round tables and a subtle color scheme of ivory and wood tones create an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere for diners. As a high-class restaurant, they serve a wide variety of classic dishes from across France using fresh and seasonal ingredients and prepared according to traditional techniques. They also have an impressive wine cellar that houses vintages from all over France and around the world. I took part in the #MINIpicnic program, a fun new program for a day prepared by Mandarin Oriental Jakarta where couples can experience an exclusive dinner at Lyon Restaurant, which included in this program. It was also a special night for me because my husband gave me a sweet surprise with a beautiful fresh flower bouquet and a customized gift card for my birthday. Yay!

Seared Sea Scallops

A tender seared Hokkaido scallop served with a delicate vegetable broth with Salicornes, which prepared by Lyon Restaurant makes this dish into an elegant appetizer before heading to the main course. The perfectly seared scallop tasted very delicious, soft, with a simple flavor yet superb! It also served with a scallop mousse with crispy buckwheat bread on both sides.

Escalope of Foie Gras from Les Landes

Foie Gras has always been my favorite dish whenever I come to a French restaurant. Lyon Restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel presents a beautiful composition of duck breast with the sweetness of mandarin pulpe, mixed with the sweet and sour of the citrus. It was a really delicious starter to please our taste buds!

Butter-Poached Lobster with Casseroled Green Peas

I love lobster, and the butter poaching technique loads the flavor of butter into the lobster. It was sweet, mild, yet firm but still delicate and not chewy. A combination of basil oil, rice cream, fresh raspberry and apple confit made the lobster taste even more delicious especially when we mixed them together.

Sole Fillet Au Naturel with Bone Marrow

I have never tried a very mild and wonderful fish like the one I ate in Lyon Restaurant that night. Dover Sole turned out to be a very expensive fish from the Pacific, a premium quality of white fish at a cost nearly 1 million Rupiah per serving. Oh my gosh! The fish’s delicate flavor wonderfully balanced by braised celeriac, and genevoise sauce, which made from a combination of brown sauce and red wine sauce. It was truly another excellent dish at Lyon Restaurant.

Free-Range Chicken on the Bone Roasted with Spring Lettuces

A small portion of roasted chicken cooked to perfection until very tender. It was served with spring lettuces, and the grilled onion emulsion added a great flavor. The chicken meat simply melted in my mouth, very juicy and tasty!

Roasted Farmed Fillet of Beef with Mushroom Macaroni and Herbs Jus

I would say this was a sample of a little bit of luxury from a perfect tender cut of beef. Chef Thierry Le Queau, Executive Chef at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Jakarta, has selected a high-quality beef and beautifully served it with mushroom macaroni and herb juice dressing. The beef was cooked medium, but if you don’t like medium cooked, remember that you can always request them to cook it more or less to your preference. It’s best to eat the beef with the best red wine, for example, Cotes Du Rhone Red Wine.

Bendigo Fields Farm's Lamb Saddle

Another luxury we found on a plate of succulent, pink, juicy, medium rare saddle of the lamb sprinkled with black lemon, and gnocchi in goat milk. We were pleased how simple it looked, but also how lovely it tasted. Tasty and flavorful!

At the end of our meal, Chef Thierry came out with a beautiful piece of Raspberry Sable Tart served with rose jelly and white chocolate mousse. And last but not least, Oven Preserved Apple Grand Mere, which consists of slices fresh apple in a slightly sour yet sweet at the same time, “Gavotte” with artisanal hydromel and buckwheat ice cream. Both desserts tasted wonderful, and I would recommend you to try it.

Overall from our experience, both of us had a wonderful evening with great service and all dishes were prepared by Chef Thierry at Lyon Restaurant to their finest. We were treated as if we were royals during the #MINIpicnic program for a day at Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. Everything we ate was fresh and tasty. You must visit this restaurant when you’re in Jakarta or whenever you look for a great French Cuisine in Jakarta. Thank you, Lyon Restaurant and Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, for a wonderful and unforgettable romantic dinner experience. Talking about French, I’ve joined the 360 ° Savings at Bank OCBC NISP and now I want to add to the balance of savings so I can get more opportunity to win a trip to Paris.
