[NEW POST] First Dessert Omakase in Indonesia by Kim Pangestu at Nomz Kitchen & Pastry

Are you familiar with the term Omakase? Well, recently I enjoyed the first Dessert Omakase in Indonesia, which held by Chef Kim Pangestu at Nomz Kitchen & Pastry in Grand Indonesia Mall. Omakase in Japanese term means letting the chef serve you as they want, and, of course, the chef will also notes if you have certain allergies. Omakase is often found in Sushi restaurants; that’s where the customers leave the selection of food to the chef. The chef will present a series of plates, starts with the lightest dishes, proceed to heavy dishes and so on. Well, what about Dessert Omakase? The same! We leave it all to the pastry chef who is on duty, yay! 😀

Not only Chef Kim, who was very excited to present her first Dessert Omakase, the first in Indonesia. But all of us were very excited too! It was the first Dessert Omakase experience for us, and we enjoyed it together with Brad Lau, a famous blogger based in Singapore, also known as ladyironchef. Woohoo! His fiance, Melody, and my media friend, Jed Doble from Foodie Magazine also present there. I’m grateful for this rare opportunity and thank you so much Nomz for the special privilege of having us that night.

So, what was Chef Kim provided for us that night? Of course, everything was in the form of a surprise!! While she was preparing the first dessert, she allowed us to eat the cute mushroom on the table. What? Apparently, it was an edible mushroom, I forgot what this is made of, but the green grass was made from grated coconut. Oh, she’s so creative!

The next thing I know, the first dessert was finally ready. The combination of fresh Mango with Thai Tea granita made a delicious twist, perfect for summer. It’s served with black sticky rice ice cream and coconut foam on top. We loved it! As we sat, busy chatting with other guests, and busy with our SnapChat application, ha-ha.. Chef Kim continued to serve us with the next dessert. All the goodness of strawberries displayed with luxury in this dessert. It consisted of strawberry gel, strawberry paper, milk meringue, balsamic vinegar cream, coconut sponge, fresh strawberry, and basil sorbet. The basil flavor was not overpowering, unique, and perfectly refreshing!

Followed by the bitter chocolate microwave sponge, sweet corn ice cream, caramelized nori, parmesan, and pistachio.

Not enough with the desserts above, she then surprised us with lava cake. A luscious warm chocolate green tea lava melted and ran out quickly when we cut the outer layer of sponge cake. It’s served with oatmeal crumble, yuzu gel, and passion fruit curd. The flavors were perfectly balanced between slightly bitter green tea, and the sweetness of the chocolate. We loved it!

Last but not least, we also enjoyed the Kalamansi shot that served with coconut pannacotta and dried pineapple on it. Each dessert had a different surprise, so unique and delicious. Each one of us also tried to guess each of the ingredients used, and it was fun! Finally, Chef Kim unveiled all the Dessert Omakase! Yay! Thank you, Chef Kim, for the sweet experience! Nomz Jakarta offers this Dessert Omakase for only IDR 230.000++ available from Friday and Saturday (7.30pm – 9pm / 9pm -end) and Sunday (3pm – 4.30pm / 4.30pm – end).
