[NEW] Tamoya Udon No 1 Japanese Sanuki Udon Now in Pluit, Jakarta

If you happen to be around Pluit, you might want to stop by to Tamoya Udon at Emporium Pluit, North Jakarta. I just went there last Saturday with my friend and spotted this newly opened restaurant on the ground floor of the mall, located right next to the Fish and Co Restaurant. I wondered at that time about this restaurant and when I asked to the cashier, apparently Tamoya Udon is still in the soft opening period, but unfortunately, there is no special discounts or special promotions during this period. Established in 1996 by Udon champion, Tamotsu Kurokawa, Tamoya specializes in serving homemade Udon and broth, brought all the way from Sanuki (Kagawa prefecture) in Japan.

The ordering system of this Udon house has the same way as Ikea, Marugame Udon, Donburi Ichiya and several other restaurants have the same system. So, as usual, we ordered at the counter, chose the desired Udon, and when we got the Udon, we move down the line to take the tempura and drinks for additional costs. There are a few of Udon types available at Tamoya Udon; hot, and/or cold. Actually, for the first comer, we should try the basic Kake Udon, because it’s a popular one according to the waiter.

But because Kake Udon is served in a clear broth, and some Udon has similar topping to the other Udon restaurant that we usually eat, so I decided to order the Chicken Teriyaki Udon. I also added the Salmon Onigiri (IDR 16.5K), Chicken Karaage (IDR 14K), and Chikuwa Tempura (IDR 20K). The Udon texture was a bit chewy, bouncy, yet didn’t make us bloated or full. It’s served with rich tasted broth, and the chicken teriyaki that has a crispy coating on the outside was so tender. The sweet seasoning of the chicken made the broth also tasted a bit sweet; we loved it!

There’s also a table where we can freely customize our bowl of Udon with additional tempura bits, seaweed, chopped scallions, and chili. We can also get the tempura sauce, spoon, chopsticks as well in this area. The Salmon Onigiri looked simple, but it tasted really delicious! And the Chicken Karaage was fried to perfection, crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Overall from my experience, we really enjoyed the texture of their Udon and the tasty broth. It was a very satisfying meal, and we will come back to try Tamoya Udon with some other toppings! At the moment, they accept payment in CASH only.
