[NEW BRANCH] Thai Feast at Tom Tom Restaurant, Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK)

Tom Tom Kitchen has announced the opening of its new branch in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), North Jakarta, and we went there a week ago with some other food bloggers. There are many Thai restaurants in town, but it wasn’t easy to find a good one. Tom Tom Kitchen, which was first established last year with its first outlet in Grand Indonesia Mall, offers Thai comfort food that everyone can enjoy at a reasonable price. You can easily spot this restaurant just a few blocks from BlackBall Cafe in PIK area. Although the restaurant is not too big, the minimalist design, an open kitchen concept, and some hand painting at the back of the walls plus the yellow light from the inside portrays a warm and homey atmosphere for diners.

For appetizers, we started with Som Tam with Calamary, Pandan Chicken (Kai Ho Bay Thei), and various Satay. Som Tam is a term for Green Papaya Salad, a classic Thai salad that usually served with prawn, and squid. It was like eating Gado-Gado (the Indonesian Salad) because this dish also has peanuts mixed in. The salad had a nice sweet and sour flavor combination that was light and refreshing and served with tender and crunchy calamari on top.

Pandan Chicken (Kai Ho Bay Thei), the next dish served, loved by many guests that night. I loved the scent of the Pandan leaves that wraps the chunks of coconut-milk-marinated chicken. The chicken was juicy, tender, and delicious! The satay also tasted good, where chicken, fish ball, and squid satay, served with three different dipping sauces.

Since Tom Tom Kitchen is a Thai Food restaurant, it wasn’t a surprise that they’d be serving us with many Thai comfort food dishes! Served as the main dish of the night, Honey-Garlic Crispy Chicken, and Tom Yum Kung was our top favorites. What pleased me about the Tom Yum Kung was a well balanced spicy and sour flavor, served with a quite big shrimp in the soup. While the crisp-tender chicken coated in a honey-garlic sauce was tasty and flavorful. I found the Pad Thai (stir-fried rice noodle) was pretty good, but a bit lack of seasoning because I prefer if it can be a bit more spicy than this for my personal preference.

The fragrant aroma of Thai Green Curry with Chicken was inviting, and surprisingly, it tasted good! The curry soup was quite creamy, and the chicken was tender and flavorful. From the vegetable section, we also tried the Pad Prik Khing (classic Stir-fried Green Beans) which was simple, slightly spicy yet so delicious!

If you are a fan of Thai cuisine, you are probably already familiar with this cute dessert. Luk Chup (fruit-shaped mung beans) is a popular dessert in Thailand, and I loved the sweetness that comes out from this miniature fruits and vegetables.

Another interesting dessert was the Kenom Thai; a variety of Thailand cakes that consists of Takko, tuapep, noman, wunkety, and sangkaya. Overall, we had a great dinner experience at Tom Tom Kitchen. And if you visit this restaurant, do not miss their Tom Yum Fried Rice! Not only because of the big portion, but it also tasted really good! You should try it!
