Singapore has so much to offer when it comes to travel, either you travel alone, with your loved one, your family or just for a business trip. A lot of new eating places, shopping, and numerous hotels are also available. Well, I just returned from two nights in the exquisite Valley Wing of Shangri-La Singapore, and the stay experience was fantastic! Shangri-La‘s hotel brand has been known as a luxury hotel, and five-star service, and apparently the Shangri-La Singapore is the first Shangri-La hotel in the world where it was built in 1971 (which means 44 years ago). Kewl! The location is very good too, it’s strategically located just a stone’s throw from the Orchard Road in the heart of Singapore with various shopping malls and entertainment facilities.
The Shangri-La Singapore has three distinctive wings: the contemporary Tower Wing, the Garden Wing, which is inspired by nature set amongst lush tropical foliage, and the exclusive Valley Wing. Through this post, I’d like to say once again; thank you so much to Shangri-La Singapore for giving me the privilege to stay in a Deluxe Pool View Room in the Valley Wing and let me experience the exclusivity of Valley Wing as soon as I arrived at the private lobby. From the moment I walked into the Hotel, smooth check-in, warm and friendly professional staff, helpful and attentive, they excelled in service.

My room on the 14th floor of Valley Wing (#1455) was extraordinarily spacious, and luxurious atmosphere comes with a generous array of amenities. A marvelous chandelier gave the room a warm touch when lit. In addition to that, this room also features a long minimalist sofa, full-size executive writing desk, a sleek flat screen TV, a view overlooking the pool and Garden Wing from my room, marble-clad bathrooms with a separate bathtub and glass-enclosed shower, plus LCD television facing bathtub. The bed was comfortable with nice soft linen. The luxurious experience in the room was unforgettable for me!
The doorman explained how everything worked in the room. He also explained that everything in the mini bar was complimentary, except for alcoholic beverages and snacks. They even gave me bottled water as much as 4-5 bottles (well stocked every day), and I got a complimentary chocolate in a small box every afternoon. How nice! Not only that, but they also use Premium L’Occitane for the toiletries, one of the brand’s most popular products in the world that has won over beauty editors, and many people out there. I couldn’t get enough of these basic bar soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and body lotion from brands like L’occitane, and yes, the housekeeping restocks them every day. Yay!
Set amidst 15 acres of lush greenery, Shangri-La Singapore is a place like no other. Besides the smooth check-in, the luxurious amenities in the room, premium L’occitane for the toiletries that I’ve mentioned above, relaxing at the poolside were something that I cannot miss.
As I strolled through the main lobby at the Shangri-La Singapore, I found a unique Christmas Tree with its “Once Upon a Christmas” theme. The tree was beautifully decorated with a stunning collection of handcrafted fondant of 120 fairy princesses and princes (limited edition) to raise funds for charity; available for purchase from $180 each. And the proceeds will go towards buying books and Christmas gifts for children at AG Home, a non-profit residential home for teenage girls; and the Canossaville Children’s Home. It was truly beautiful!
So as a guest of Valley Wing, I can freely choose where I want to eat for breakfast. The first option for breakfast is The LINE. The LINE located at level 1 Shangri-La Singapore is an all-day dining restaurant, where the International cuisine offers more than 16 culinary stations, and the bar offers a large selection of premium wines, juices, and smoothies. I was attracted with the huge Oysters at the cold seafood counter. All seafood lovers will love the freshness and sweet taste of the seafood. Lobsters, crabs, prawns, scallops and mussels also added more excitement to the seafood counter. Singapore Laksa from the a la carte menu was surprisingly tasty, served with a pretty big crab claw in it. Pssst, don’t forget to save room for dessert because The LINE also offers both local and Western-style desserts.
The second option is The Waterfall. The Waterfall, which is located nearby The LINE, and also overlooks the swimming pool, offers authentic and unique Southern Italian cuisine that combines the freshest seafood, handmade pasta and heirloom recipes from Chef de Cuisine Marco De Vincentis. I went there for breakfast on the second day of my stay at the Shangri-La Singapore, and the breakfast that I’ve tried was all delicious! I had several breakfast menus such as a portion of poached eggs served with rye bread, strawberry pancake, half boiled egg, fresh juices and some Christmas cupcakes from the dessert station.
And this is the Garden Wing that I’ve mentioned earlier in this post. It’s like a hidden gem in the Shangri-La Singapore, and I’ve never seen anything like this before in other hotels. The soothing sound of the cascading waterfall, graceful Koi swimming in the ponds and verdant surroundings with child-friendly amenities complete the resort experience.
In addition to the award-winning restaurants such as The Line, classic Cantonese cuisine at Shang Palace, authentic Italian cuisine at The Waterfall, I was treated to a wonderful Kaiseki Lunch at Nadaman. Since 1830, the famous Nadaman group of restaurants has been treating discerning diners in Japan to fine traditional cuisine. The kaiseki lunch was not only tasty, but the chef transformed the seasonal product into wonderful dishes. All the food was beautifully presented, fresh in flavor, simple yet so delicious.
Talk about luxury as a guest of the Valley Wing, I can also get some privileges such as complimentary breakfast in the private Summit Room located at the Valley Wing lobby, and complimentary drinks (champagne, cocktails, wines, tea, and coffee) throughout the day at the lavish Champagne Bar located at the Valley Wing lobby. On the first day I’ve tried the Apple Tart accompanied by Champagne, and the next day I went back again and tried the High-Tea set along with the White Wine. I wasn’t sure the name of the wine, but I was delighted with the savory sandwiches and sweet desserts served on that day.
Complimentary Schedules for Valley Wing Guests
11:00am to 2:00pm = Light snacks
2:00pm to 5:00pm = Selection of high tea delights
5:00pm to 7:00pm = Variety of canapes
7:00pm to 10:30pm = Light snacks
With personal, professional butler, business center and complimentary local calls and incoming fax services in the guest room, I was more than satisfied. And last but not least, the Pastry Chef at the Shangri-La Singapore also creates Christmas chocolate that comes in different shapes to welcome the festive season. When I returned to my room on the second night of my stay at the hotel, I got a cute Tin Music Box that contains delicious chocolate nougat in it. It was a sweet surprise from the hotel, thank you Shangri-La Singapore for the lovely surprise. 🙂
The Valley Wing‘s unique ambiance with personalized services, exclusive facilities, and top class service, suit to discerning travelers who want to experience the exclusivity at the beginning of their stay. Now I understand why the Shangri-La Hotel is consistently voted as one of the best hotels in the world. I’ve stayed at the Shangri-La Jakarta before, and this was my first time staying at the Shangri-La Singapore, and both experiences were wonderful. The room was incredibly comfortable and spotless, impeccable service, great food, great location in the heart of Orchard, and excellent amenities.
