[NEW SPOT] Woohoo! St Marc Cafe from Japan, Now Open in Jakarta!

Good news, hey, dessert lovers! St. Marc Cafe is recently opened in Lower Ground of Senayan City, South Jakarta on Christmas Day 2015 (Dec 25, 2015), and yes, this brand was brought all the way from Tokyo (Japan). Yay! We’ve visited their branch in Osaka when we travel to Japan, and we fell in love with their Parfaits that’s available in several flavors. It’s why we were excited to find out what’s in this first branch in Indonesia. Just a little background for you, Saint Marc Cafe is a popular Japanese bakery chain, best known for its signature chocolate croissant, which is the Choco Cro. Not only freshly baked bread, sandwiches, and Japanese style parfaits, but they serve coffee too. Starting from its first Tokyo outlet at Ginza Marronie Shop in 1993, St. Marc Cafe has expanded and now has more than 300 outlets in Japan and overseas branches.

The concept of this cafe is a self-service order, so we immediately took a tray and took whatever we want from the displays. I’m always amazed by how good they create the food replicas. All looked so tempting and entice us to order more than what we intended! Ha-ha..

From the pastry displays at the entrance, we tried the Choco Cro, the most famous product in St. Marc Cafe. This month, they have two unique flavors, but unfortunately, the Tochiotome Choco Cro (strawberry flavor) was sold out. So I decided to try the Banana Walnut Choco Cro (IDR 23K), which is also a limited edition. The Choco Cro was still warm when served and after my first bite, I now understand why it’s known as their bestseller. The thin, light, crisp croissant layers surprised me, and what delights me more was the bittersweet dark chocolate made from the best cocoa beans from Ghana and Ecuador, mixed with banana flavor and some walnut, wrapped in the flaky and buttery-flavored croissant dough.

The Chicken Egg Salsa bread (IDR 30K) was also a favorite for both of us! The crusty dough of this savory bread stuffed with chicken ham, salsa, and mayonnaise sauce inside. Not to forget, the egg on top made a delightful combination, it tasted so good and best eaten when the bread is still warm. However, it would be best if the egg is only half cooked with a runny egg yolk.

Aha! Look! This is what I’ve mentioned above earlier! The plastic replicas of the desserts looks so appealing, right?!

And because they didn’t have more strawberries when we came and the waiter said, they will be ready later in the afternoon, we finally ordered Mango Fantasy (IDR 75K) and paid a total of IDR 140K at the cashier. All the Japanese style parfaits come with Vanilla soft serve ice cream, and the difference is just the toppings on top. It was nice to know that the ice cream didn’t melt that fast!

The Mango Fantasy is consisted of matcha ice cream (I requested for it, but in fact, it’s served with plain Vanilla Ice Cream), brownie, pudding, cornflakes, and fresh sliced mangoes. It was a guilty pleasure! The crunchy cornflakes, the softness of the pudding, and everything, we loved it! And before we leave this cafe, there was someone who recognizes us, Adit, and he came to us to introduce himself. He was so kind to provide me with the Choco Berry Celebration after he heard how I felt sad because I couldn’t buy the Choco Berry Celebration. He bought some strawberries in the supermarket and asked the waiter to prepare this dessert for us. Thank you Adit for the complimentary!

Overall, we had a pleasant time in this cafe, and we would gladly return to, especially for more Choco Cro and savory bread next time. The dessert was good but overpriced! So, if you are at Senayan City Mall, you can probably give this place a try!
