[MALAYSIA] Itinerary Kuala Lumpur – Day 1

It was really fun to be able to travel abroad even though it was only a short getaway! Not long ago (just last week), we had returned from a trip Jakarta – Kuala Lumpur – Bangkok – Jakarta together with our foodie friend, Hans Danial. Anyway, this post has been stay long in the draft, so I wanted to finalize the story and share it with you. In this post, I only share the story of our culinary trip when we were in Kuala Lumpur on day 1. It was a short day, as we arrived in KL around 12 pm after we picked up our baggage from KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport). But as you can see from my SnapChat account (Follow me: Myfunfoodiary), we managed to visit a few places to eat in a day. Yay! Some of the places that we visited in KL are based on the recommendations that we receive through our social media accounts. Thank you dear readers and our followers for the recommendation, we are thankful to have you support us! So, these are the places to eat in Kuala Lumpur which I summarize into one article for your references, and I hope this post can inspire you if you want to make a short trip to Kuala LumpurMalaysia.

1. Brickfields Pisang Goreng – Mr Chiam

Located in the same area as KL Central Station, we decided to visit Brickfields Pisang Goreng Mr. Chiam. This place is known as the famous banana fritters for locals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Just 5-minutes walk from KL Central Station; we easily see their food stall which is located opposite the YMCA, and we saw a lot of people queuing there. We bought three pieces of banana fritters (1.30RM each), and we absolutely liked it! The banana was so crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. What makes it special is because they only use the King Bananas (Pisang Raja). Pssst, before we left for Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, we visited this stall again and bought the banana fritters again! Ha-ha..

Right in front of the stall, we took Uber car to our Hotel, which located in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The hotel name is Ambassador Row Hotel Suites by Lanson Place, apparently is a 4-star hotel that features a spacious lobby with personal check in, and friendly service. We booked for one Superior One Bedroom Suite with Breakfast, and instantly impressed with our rooms. The room was bigger than what we expected! It was like in apartments; we got a kitchen with all the necessary stuff, dining table, living room with a big TV, a working area with comfortable couch, and the bedroom with a bathroom. It was a pleasant stay, and I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Kuala Lumpur!

It’s quite affordable, and the location is very near to KLCC. You can see what’s in the room from our YouTube video here!

2. Yut Kee Restaurant

Located in Jalan Kamunting, Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, we visited Yut Kee Restaurant. We heard that this place is popular with their Pork Chops and Roti Babi. When we arrived at 5.30pm, the restaurant was closed already. Lucky us, the owner realized we were tourists and let us order some food. Yeay! Ha-ha..

We ordered Pork Chops (12.50RM) and Chicken Chops (10.50RM) where both come with a similar presentation. The pork chops and chicken chops were deep fried and covered in brown gravy, served with roast potatoes and some frozen vegetables. The texture of the sauce and presentation reminds me of the Egg foo yong (in Jakarta, we often

called it Puyunghai). They were delicious, but for me, the Chicken Chops was juicier than the Pork Chops. The gravy sauce was lacking flavor, but it’s probably the old school taste that people search from Yut Kee. We also tried Roti Babi (10RM), which is well known there, but it did not impress me. It contained chopped pork meat with some onions; it was nice, but too greasy. From the bread, they offered us to try the Kaya Roll (1.10RM/pieces). The toasted bread served with homemade coconut kaya jam, and I liked it! For drinks, you should try their Kopi Charm (iced coffee mix with tea, 2.50RM), it tasted really good! The Teh O (2RM) and Assam Boi (2.80RM) are also recommended!

Afterward, we made our way to Suria KLCC mall, because it’s always nice to see the dazzling of Petronas Twin Tower KLCC at night. Petronas Twin Tower is known as one of Malaysia‘s famous icons and a top priority to visit while in Kuala Lumpur. We always come back to the same place, taking the same picture of the twin towers, the same place but different travel companion. We had a little time strolling in the mall after we bought some fresh fruit juices at the Juice Works booth located at Concourse Level, Suria KLCC. I tried the Strawberry Orchard 600ml for only 13.75RM, and it tasted so refreshing! It was raining when we were in the park area, but hey, we got this picture for you! Say cheeeeeseeee… 😀 Pssst, once you got there, take your time to take as many pictures as you can, and watch the beautiful Musical Fountain. How they synchronize the music, dramatic animations, and light display, make the dancing water show become something you shouldn’t miss!

The Lake Symphony Water Fountain show time: everyday 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm

When we saw the board up for 8oz Eight Ounce Coffee in Suria KLCC Mall, we stopped by for a while and ordered some drinks. Hans ordered a cup of hot coffee, and I bought a cup of nice Hot Chocolate (13RM) to warm the night. After that, all of us took Uber car again to one of the famous spots for street food in Kuala Lumpur.

3. Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang

Many say that good food makes you happy, well, it’s true! Ha-ha.. I feel happy whenever we go back to Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. There was this dim sum stall just across Loong Kee’s outlet which wasn’t there a few years ago when I went there. All the dim sum looked nice, colorful, and smells good! We bought 8pcs of dim sum for only 10RM and enjoyed it! Different colors represent different flavors, but my most favorite flavors were the shrimp, pitan, original, and black pepper!

As usual, I also love to see what promotions are currently available in Loong Kee’s outlet. Loong Kee is a successful brand in the dried meat industry throughout the years in Malaysia. They have lots of branches widely spread across the country and is famous for the dried meat (barbecued meat), meat floss, meat fluff, etc. They have something like any 3 for only 11RM, so I usually go there and buy my favorite snacks; some dried meat, and dried fish to take home. Go there and take a look, probably you’ll have something that you’ll like! 🙂

Last but not least, we had our late dinner at Cu Cha Restaurant. It was the same seafood restaurant that I usually eat with my husband when we are in Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang. We went there again and ordered some food; BBQ Chicken Wings (3.50RM/wing), Banana Leaf Grill Fish (stingray, 25RM), Hot & Spicy Sea Shells (22RM), Seafood TomYum (18RM), and Oyster Omelette (15RM). We were so starving yet everything was delicious, and we left the place with happy tummy. It’s a place where my local friend recommended me long time ago, and if you have more time, don’t forget to visit the famous Portugese Grilled Fish in Kuala Lumpur.
