Good news! A new casual brunch spot has popped up at Menteng, Central Jakarta. I’m not sure how many brunch restaurants is available now in Jakarta, but our visit to Maple and Oak Jakarta earlier today made them become one of my favorite brunches spot in Jakarta. Maple and Oak is a newest brunch spot which just opened exactly one week when you read this post today. Located in De Ritz Building (Menteng), Maple and Oak serves a modern all-day brunch menu, complete with coffee, and some cakes. My friend, Hans, recommended me to go to this place, and I decided to visit them today.
Apparently, my friend, Chef Odie Djamil is one of the owners, he was busy in the kitchen when we want to give him a little surprise, thada. Ha-ha.. Jo, who was the owner of Lark Ice Cream, also one of the owners of this place. He recognized me and gave me a warm welcome when I entered the door. Such a nice gesture! As you can see from my SnapChat (add my ID: Myfunfoodiary) and the pictures in this post, the cozy setting in Maple and Oak is simply lovely for a romantic brunch for two, a casual meeting with colleagues, hanging out with friends, etc.
Although the indoor seating area is small, it feels comfortable because the air conditioner was quite cold, and we liked the outdoor area as well. Bright, and airy, with lots of green plants outside. I think it’s good for those early risers to sit here, grab a coffee, and watch the morning traffic go by, as Maple and Oak opens daily at 7:00 am for coffee and cakes, while their kitchen is ready at 9:00 am for brunch. Last order is at 8:30 pm, so make sure to come earlier.
We ordered something interesting such as Beet Cured Salmon Salad (IDR 73K), and Coffee Butter Steak and Egg (IDR 138K) with additional Foie Gras (+IDR 58K). How can you resist this food, because they are all beautifully presented and so appealing? Not only appetizing to the eyes, but we really enjoyed both of them. The seared Angus Sb2+ sirloin steak was perfectly cooked as requested, come along with homemade coffee butter, sauteed mushroom, excellent sous vide egg, baby spinach, pomme puree, basil oil, and micro greens. It was full of flavor and delish! The creative salad instantly became our favorite as well, where 24 hours beet-cured Norwegian Salmon was the star of this dish.
I personally adore all the combinations in this salad such as Edamame, Kyuri, red cabbage, along with ponzu dressing, togarashi, and sesame seeds. Big love for both dishes! As for the drink, we tried Warm Your Passion (IDR 65K) a very refreshing drink that can be shared for 3-4 persons. I didn’t remember the description when I ordered my drink, and I wonder now why the color of my drink is not brown at all? I totally forgot to check what’s said on the menu, but then I just realized it now; what we had today was just a refreshing combination of passionfruit, with lime water, lemongrass, and ginger. So where’s the earl grey tea? Hiks.. 🙁
Overall, it was a lovely brunch experience for us! The service is friendly and prompt. If you’re looking a new spot for a relaxed brunch or a lazy weekend brunch, head over to Maple and Oak Brunch Jakarta. Be sure to bring cash, because they’re still in soft opening mode, and they don’t accept cards at the moment. All the best to Maple and Oak!
