[BALI] Nasi Ayam Kedewatan Bu Mangku

On day 6 of our road trip this year (06 July 2016) we decided to visit Nasi Ayam Kedewatan Ibu Mangku, which is very near to our hotel in Ubud. This place was suggested as one of the best Nasi Campur Ayam in Bali, which has existed in my culinary list ‘a must try’ in Bali since a few years ago, but we never had a chance to try it. But finally, this time on our vacation, we went there for lunch on Wednesday driving through Jalan Kedewatan, Ubud.

This restaurant is located not far from the narrow lane that leads down to Ayung River if you’re familiar with the Ubud area. And it was quite difficult to find a parking spot because they don’t have parking space. It’s why lots of cars parked along the side of the road that caused traffic along the way. When we arrived, this place was so crowded, no air-conditioning, and all area is open air seating. There’s one table available next to the pond, but we opted for the floor seating (lesehan) so we could get some privacy, and we can enjoy the greenery around the Balinese style house at this restaurant.

For the food itself, they only have Nasi Ayam on the menu. Nasi Ayam is their specialty and there are two options available; you can have all the ingredients on the rice (campur), or served separately (pisah). Of course, we ordered for 2 servings of Nasi Campur (everything on 1 plate), with 2 glasses of Orange Juice for drinks. Because we came during the Idul Fitri holiday season, and the restaurant was full house that afternoon, we had to wait about 40 minutes. Oh gosh! But the Nasi Campur (spicy mix Balinese chicken rice) tasted great, the best I’ve ever had so far, so it was worth the wait for us! We loved everything on the plate! Great tasting spicy chicken, which came together with peanuts, spicy garnishing, Balinese ‘lawar’ (vegetables) and satay-stick of minced chicken grilled to perfection.

The portion of this Nasi Ayam Kedewatan Ibu Mangku was just nice, and it’s quite cheap, only Rp. 25.000,- per serving. There are some interesting snacks available in front of the cashier, ranging from Rp. 5.000,-. So, we added some crackers and Balinese peanuts to accompany our meals as well. (We tried the Sweet Spicy Emping for only Rp. 5.000,- and the Balinese peanuts for only Rp. 10.000,-, and both of them were nice! We ended up buying another 7 packs of the peanuts afterwards to take home, ha-ha..) The Orange Juice tasted refreshing for only Rp. 7.000,- per glass.

Overall, it was a nice experience for us! Great taste, homey atmosphere, best value for money, no wonder this place is so popular among locals and tourists! Highly recommended! If you happen to be in Bali or have a plan to visit Bali, make sure to put Nasi Ayam Kedewatan Ibu Mangku in your ‘must try’ culinary list. I heard they also have another branch in Seminyak, and Denpasar, so it will be easier for you to select the nearest branch.
