Well, I guess it’s not only restaurants that continuous to grow rapidly, but now the numbers of people who put their interest into food also grow fast. When a new spot opens in town, we can’t wait to check it out! It’s true, right? Ha-ha.. So, a few days ago, we went to a newly opened branch of Old Town White Coffee Asian Diner located in Pakubuwono area, South Jakarta. This branch has opened its door for public at least one month, and we were impressed with their food, including the fast and friendly service at this place.
I’m quite familiar with this brand because I used to eat their Kaya and Butter Set with Omega Soft Boiled Eggs, and Nasi Lemak at Old Town White Coffee located in Malaysia’s airport whenever I had a trip to Malaysia. Old Town White Coffee is a popular Malaysian brand, also known as the largest halal-certified Kopitiam restaurant chain in Ipoh, Perak which was founded in 1999. The minimalist decor and a warm welcoming ambiance in Old Town White Coffee Pakubuwono made
us feel so comfortable from the second we stepped in. Not only the parking lot, but the spacious seating area in the restaurant makes it possible for everyone to have a birthday party, corporate meeting, mom’s gathering, etc. And the good thing is, this branch in Pakubuwono is located in a very strategic location, and open from 7 am until late!! That’s kewl!
As a casual dining restaurant, Old Town White Coffee Pakubuwono offers a wide variety of dishes, ranging from pan mee series, hor fun, egg noodles, nasi lemak, butter rice, bread, and some desserts. Alongside some basic Malaysian dishes, such as paratha, kaya and butter toast, and curry mee, you’ll find some unique choices, such as Garlic Butter Toast, Kaya & Butter Steam Bread, some Western food and Junior Meal is also available here. For lunch, we tried Old Town Curry Pan Mee, Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce, Paratha with Curry Chicken, and Kaya Butter Steam Bread.
The Curry Pan Mee (IDR 49K) tasted absolutely delicious with yellow noodles, drenched in a savory, fragrant and not-so-spicy curry broth. I like how the texture of the Pan Mee was smooth and slightly chewy, served with a generous amount of toppings, from fish balls, tofu puff, seasoned chicken, and bean sprouts. It was delicious and so comforting! The Paratha (flat bread) easily became our favorite too! It’s best enjoyed with Curry Chicken (IDR 48K) or with Curry Potato (IDR 37K), paired with their classic signature drinks, Old Town Teh Tarik, and Old Town White Coffee Hazelnut that can be ordered hot or cold. If you want something cold, and refreshing, Coco Blossom is a good choice to cool the spice of the Malaysian cuisine.
If you want something unique and simple, you should try their Kaya and Butter Steam Bread (IDR 30K) which you cannot find in other brands. Fluffy and soft bread served warm in dim sum baskets. Well, not only that but the Chicken Chop (IDR 59K) from the Western series, also tasted delicious. Although it looked simple, the fried boneless chicken was tender, and I enjoyed the tasty mushroom sauce on it. It was simply satisfying, a kind of comfort food that I will crave again!
We also had Banana French Toast (IDR 37K) which was simple, yet perfect to end our heavy meals. Sweet banana jam with vanilla ice-cream on top brought a unique dimension of flavor. The bread was crisp on the outside and best eaten when it’s still warm. Overall, it was an enjoyable lunch in Old Town White Coffee Pakubuwono with satisfying meals and drinks! It’s a good place to hang out, for dining or just to enjoy light snacks accompanied with coffee.
