[NEW MENU] Ikkousha Ramen Mazesoba at Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK)

Do you still remember Hakata Ikkousha Ramen which located in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), North Jakarta? Yes, I’m sure you’re familiar with this brand, Hakata Ikkousha, the famous Ramen chain restaurant from Japan, and this branch in Jakarta is one of the official branches of the Fukuoka Hakata, Japan. Although Ramen houses are opening everywhere, Hakata Ikkousha Jakarta is still popular because they offer authentic Japanese ramen in Hakata style. Until now, Hakata Ikkousha already has 13 branches in Indonesia (4 in Jakarta, 1 in Gading Serpong, 1 in Bali, 2 in Jogjakarta, 3 in Surabaya, 1 in Medan, and 1 in Bandung). That’s kewl!

Unlike in Japan, here, Hakata Ikkousha in PIK area occupies a spacious and cozy space, that makes dining at Hakata is an enjoyable moment for everyone. As you can tell, Hakata Ikkousha is famous for its tonkotsu (pork-based broth) that is made using pork bones. But some outlets do not serve pork, and if you want to know more about these branches, you can check out their outlets on their website. However, on our last visit to Hakata Ikkousha PIK a few days ago, we were introduced to a new menu called Mazesoba.

But before I share the excitement of the new menu Mazesoba, we tried a few of their favorite appetizers such as Buta Chashu thick (IDR 58K), Tori Karaage (IDR 34K), Fried Pork Gyoza (IDR 28K), and Grilled Pork Gyoza (IDR 28K). The Pork Chashu was quite thick, but unfortunately, the texture was a bit dry to my personal preference. But I absolutely liked their Tori Karaage which was lightly crisp, juicy, and I could feel the taste of ginger in it. Both Gyoza, either grilled or fried, they were my favorite too! If you can’t eat pork, there’s chicken and prawn version of the gyoza.

So here is the new menu in Hakata Ikkousha Jakarta, Mazesoba. In Japan, Maze itself means Mix. So, putting Maze and Soba together literally means mixed noodles. Mazesoba is a Japanese style mixed ramen served with thick, chewy noodles and some selected ingredients on top such as onsen tamago, onion, tonkatsu, chashu pork, minced pork, spring onion, and sliced mushroom. It comes without the soup, unlike the ordinary ramen we usually eat.

To eat this soupless ramen, we have to mix the noodles, with its flavored oil and base which already there in the bowl all together! Though the toppings seemed to be common, surprisingly, the mixture of everything came up to a delicious, and flavorful combinations, especially after we added some chili oil and vinegar for noodles! Without these two extra sauce, the Mazesoba will taste bland and not tasty. I would recommend you not to mix it too long because the noodles will be sticky. Since the portion was quite big, and I think Mazesoba at Hakata Ikkousha would be the ideal bowl if you are looking for something new and comforting in a large portion.

Here in Hakata Ikkousha Jakarta, all ramen options are available in two different broth base, and you can have it with tonkotsu broth, or chicken broth base. The Pork Special Light Ramen (IDR 55K) which is part of their signature ramen is still a favorite of mine. The ramen noodles are served with a few slices of fatty pork belly which were so juicy, tender, and flavorful, including with the nicely soft boiled, Ajitama tamago. The tonkotsu soup was classic, and it was probably the

lightest soup I’ve ever tasted if compared to the other signature dishes in Hakata Ikkousha. Mild savory, yet so comforting, that’s why we can drink the soup until the last drop. If you’re not a fan of the heavy and greasy tonkotsu type of broth, you will love it too! And the best part of all, you can buy the Mini Chashu Don or Mini Chicken Don at a special price, only IDR 15K for every purchase of any ramen.

For those of you who cannot eat pork, you should try the Chicken TamTam Ramen (IDR 58K) which is a favorite for most customers, and Red Dragon Ramen (Ramen Naga Merah with spicy chicken broth and curly noodles, IDR 58K). Overall, it was a pleasant Japanese ramen for lunch with some of my foodie friends. Although Hakata Ikkousha is not the newest ramen kid on the block, their ramen still a favorite for many ramen lovers out there. Friendly service, flavorful bowls of ramen, and still affordable until today. Hakata Ikkousha Ramen Jakarta is definitely one you should try!
