[NEW] Great Canadian Food with Chef Joan Monfaredi at C’s Steak Grand Hyatt

I’ve always wanted to visit Canada, but I’m not sure when will I get the opportunity to venture out to Canada. However, I heard that Canadian cuisine varies widely depending on the regions of the nation, it makes me curious! So, a few days ago, C’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant located in Grand Hyatt Jakarta, held a special lunch to showcase the Great Canadian Food with Chef Joan Monfaredi, a professional Canadian chef who flew far away from Park Hyatt Toronto.

As we all know, C’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant is known as one of the best restaurants in Jakarta which offers a selection of freshest seafood and prime steaks. And for a limited time, starting from 10-18 April 2017, Chef Joan Monfaredi will serve all diners with her special dishes at C’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant. Set in an outdoor dining area and a relaxing environment in which the sun comes through its ceiling, made both of us truly enjoyed the lunch experience

from the beginning, especially the food made by Chef Joan herself. As an entree, we shared the Beef Carpaccio, with fried brussel sprout leaves, braised cranberry, roasted chestnut crumbs, balsamic vinegar, and pink peppercorn. I was somewhat unhappy with the roasted chestnut, some of them way too hard to bite, but the thinly sliced beef was delish! Followed by a Seafood Chowder, served with a generous amount of seared wild pickerel, mussels, clams, lobster, fresh chervil, and cheddar tuile. I loved it! It was thick, creamy, full of flavor and comforting!

The next thing I know, one bite of the Live Canadian Lobster Thermidor made me in deep focus. It’s classically prepared with crustacean sauce, sauteed spinach, herbed chateau potatoes, and blistered grape tomatoes. Juicy, meaty, and it was deliciously sweet! Now take a closer look to the beef, they use Canadian beef which is served in 3 different ways. It consists of char-grilled fillet, braised shoulder, and pan-seared wagyu chuck tender, served with spiced vinegar sauce, red wine demi-glace, chive gremolata, herb butter, potato puree, chervil potato crisp, crunchy onion ring, and tomato and garlic chips. What makes it special about it is the Canadian beef is well marbled, so flavorful, and Chef Joan knew exactly what to do with this Canadian beef. The texture of the meat was very tender, and they are irresistible.

To finish our meal, we both tried the Citrus Sensation (lemon bar with toasted meringue) and Trio of Chocolate Mousse Quenelle which happened to be amazing as well. If you like the combination of sweet and sour in your dessert, I bet you’ll like the Citrus Sensation, because it’s also served with key lime semi-freddo cube, orange mango bavarian creme, crushed caramel pretzel, red berry coulis, and sugared mint. My top favorite was the chocolate mousse with black forest caramel sauce, and one with chilled sabayon. Nadia Bourely, a Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta, said that Canada tries to increase its presence in Indonesia and we can now find Canadian premium beef in Indonesia which available at several Hero supermarkets across Jakarta.
