[NEW SPOT] Rock Papr Scsr – Modern Japanese Bistro

When you hear this: rock paper scissors, what is the first thing that comes into your mind? Yes, that’s it! That’s the traditional hand game that is popularized in Japan and now it’s became the inspiration of one of the new hype restaurants just opened recently in Jakarta, called ROCK PAPR SCSR. Strategically located at the East Building, Mega Kuningan (South Jakarta), there’s two dimensions to RPS interior setting. The vibe is wonderful: sleek, modern, and vibrant without being too formal. At the indoor area, you can find a modern coffee bar, while you can find a spacious and comfy space as in a luxurious glass house at the outdoor area (non-smoking area). We immediately felt relaxed, and I bet other diners too!

As reflected in their name, Rock Papr Scsr is a modern Japanese bistro that focuses in Yoshoku dishes, a style of Western inspired cooking in Japan. The bistro’s head chef, Cla Lisca, who graduated from Nagoya Culinary School, create speciality dishes which includes Spam Dashitzuke, Minced Beef Katsu Sandwich, Striploin & Truffle Don, and Miso Cured Black Cod. To start, a simple Seaweed Fries with Truffle Aioli (IDR 55K), and Tempura Shishito & Citrus Salt (IDR 55K), both was a good appetizers, while waiting for our main course.

Striploin & Truffle Don (IDR 135K)

The Striploin & Truffle Don is one of their signature dishes which consisted of sliced striploin steak. It should be more tender and comes with more truffle oil to make it more mouth-watering and to suit my preference. However, it comes with a nice poached egg that made the Japanese rice more creamy, and delicious.

Kara-age Don (IDR 79K)

While the Kara-age Don turned out to be our favorite too! This Japanese version of fried chicken was fried to perfection, so tender, a bit crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside, and so flavorful! It’s served with Nagoya special sauce, shredded cabbage, and Japanese rice. It was as simple as that, we loved it!

Miso Cured Black Cod (IDR 85K)

If you like fish, you can try Miso Cured Black Cod in which the black cod is marinated for 3 days, served with pan roasted edamame, and baby corn. The miso marinade adds a sweetness to the black cod, and presented nicely with a touch of edible flower on top. It was tender, but I was hoping to get a melt-in-your-mouth texture of this dish.

Deconstructed Shibuya Toast (IDR 79K) & Ricotta Hotcake (IDR 95K)

Last but not least, our lunch experience continued to the desserts, and I suggest you to leave enough room to order two of their favorite desserts at Rock Papr Scsr. Toasted Brioche Bread with Vanilla Butter Sugar, which is served with berries compote, poured honey, and Vanilla Ice Cream created a colorful dessert almost too pretty to eat. Not to forget, the Ricotta Hotcake was also beautifully presented and served warm, along with maple syrup, fresh berries, and Vanilla Ice Cream on top. It was tough to choose which one is my top favorite, but the Ricotta Hotcake was all I wanted again! Not only pleasing to the eye, but also not overly sweet, fluffy, and light texture, made me happy.

Apart from all the food mentioned above, Rock Papr Scsr is also focusing on specialty Coffee crafted by Indonesia’s barista champion 2014-2016 who is also the founder of Common Grounds Roastery, Yoshua Tanu. And here, you can enjoy a wide variety of crafted cocktails curated by Nick Lim, a top mixologist from Singapore who has worked in famous bars abroad in Singapore. Overall, I’m impressed with their food. The staff are lovely; the room relaxed, makes this an easy-to-recommend spot for anyone looking for lunch, dinner, or rewarding oneself after a long, hard day at work. If you visit Rock Papr Scsr on Wednesday, you can enjoy the live bands, and DJs every Friday and Saturday! Recommended!
