[MALAYSIA] Lovely Brunch Time at VCR Coffee & Cakes

With so many new cafes popping up in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), I’d like to share one good recommendation for you which is VCR Coffee & Cakes. Located on Jalan Galloway, Bukit Bintang, this coffee shop consists of two floors, which features a homey, airy, minimalist, and spacious dining area on the second floor. The owner seems to like cats because we found three cute cats in front of the store with necklaces as a sign that they belonged to VCR Coffee & Cakes.

This place is not a new cafe, but VCR Coffee & Cakes is considered as one of the best coffee shops in KL. We went there with the AirAsia team last month (from the AirAsia Santan Food Festival trip) for brunch, tried most of their recommendations, and we felt satisfied with everything. This place gets crowded quickly, and I saw

people are coming non-stop since morning. The coffee that I had, Cappuccino, tasted great. Surprisingly, this coffee shop also serves a variety of Western-style brunch that’s available from 9 am to 6 pm, and All Day menu from 9 am to 9 pm.

Oolong Peach, RM13

Actually, I try to avoid or at least reduce to drink coffee, but I keep ordering coffee whenever I go to the coffee shop. But I’m glad to know that they also have a good variety of teas, like Pure Chamomile, Raspberry Royale, Morgenthau Sencha, and Oolong Peach. I ordered the Oolong Peach tea, and it tasted really nice with a lingering floral aroma and peaches in it. So comforting!

Scandinavian Breakfast, RM30

Instead of ordering the same big breakfast, we tried something else that just happened to be the right choice! The Scandinavian Breakfast consisted of house-cured gravadlax, Skagen, Ikura, housemade rye toast, lescure butter, and Ni-tamago. Gravadlax is Scandinavia’s dill-flavored salmon that has been cured with salt and sugar and sometimes infused with aromatic spices. The texture of the salmon was wonderful, and the overall combination complements each other. We enjoyed it so much!

Soft Shell Crab Burger, RM26

Another favorite was the Soft Shell Crab Burger. I found that the soft shell crab was lightly fried, slightly crisp and juicy. This dish has become a good reason for us to revisit VCR Coffee & Cakes next time. The bun was soft, and it’s served with onion jam, quick pickle cucumber, housemade tartar sauce dressing and a beautiful sunny side up with Furikake (Japanese seasoning powder). That was a nice touch, we loved it!

Overall, it was a great brunch, and we enjoyed everything. Comfy and relaxing vibe, good music playing, reasonable price for food and drink, VCR Coffee and Cakes definitely a must-visit for brunch lovers, and coffee addicts alike.
