[NEW SPOT] Birdman Restaurant – Modern & Tasty Japanese Food at SCBD

My happy tummy told me to share this good news, especially for you, all Japanese food lovers! Yes! Just this afternoon, we went to Birdman Restaurant, a new modern Japanese Restaurant, and Gastropub which has been open for about two weeks now. Situated in the strategic area of SCBD (Sudirman Central Business District), Birdman Restaurant features a clean, bright and comfy ambiance with a minimalist interior. When I went there, I thought the restaurant would be empty because it’s already 4 pm, but surprisingly, some tables were occupied. So I guess, the lunch or dinner time might shift for some people, including us! Ha-ha..

So yes, we came here this afternoon for a late lunch. The waiter was welcoming at first, but then they turned out to be less friendly when we took some pictures of the food. Birdman Restaurant is still in soft opening mode, but no promotions are available until now. Initially, I wanted to try the lunch set menu, where with additional IDR 20K for any main course, means our lunch will come in one set that includes rice, miso soup, salad, pickles, and ocha. But it’s so unfortunate; the lunch set is only available from 11:00 to 15:00. So we decided to order Hot Ocha (IDR 30K), Sliced Gyutan with Kimchi Mayo, and the main course: Grilled Chicken Oyakodon.

Sliced Gyutan with Kimchi Mayo, IDR 92K

For some people, the beef tongue may sound or taste weird, but you’ll not think about it, once you try the Sliced Gyutan at Birdman. The beef tongue was grilled, thinly sliced, and the texture is just right; tender, buttery, and slightly chewy at the same time. This appetizer is served with fried garlic which makes it so fragrant, and tastier when we dip it into the kimchi mayo sauce that tasted a bit spicy. We loved it!

Grilled Chicken Oyakodon, IDR 110K

Oyakodon is a traditional Japanese donburi or rice bowl that I often look for every time I visit a Japanese restaurant. It’s a simple Japanese comfort food consisted of grilled chicken, sliced onion, and beaten eggs on top. Here, they give extra – egg yolk on top, and I like to mix things up before I eat. It made everything in the bowl tasted more creamy and so tasty. Again, we enjoyed it so much!

Overall, it was a pleasant – quick late lunch for both of us! Too bad, when we ordered for Enoki Bacon skewers, they said the kushiyaki (Japanese style grilled skewers) only available starts from 5 pm. We can’t wait that long, because we have to leave soon, so we canceled the order. A little pricey but Birdman Restaurant is worth a visit.
