[SHANGHAI] Disneyland Park and Disney Town at Disney Resort

When it comes to Disneyland, I feel like I’m alive again, fresh, and new! I was so glad when we visited Shanghai Disneyland Park and Disneytown last month because you know what? Shanghai Disneyland just opened last year, on June 16, 2016, to be exact, and we’re grateful that we had a chance to visit this park before returning to Jakarta. As you can see from my Instastory and YouTube video, the weather was nice, and it wasn’t too crowded with people! The longest queue time was only when we want to play Soaring the Horizon that took 1-hour, but that’s it! For the rest, we only waited about 5-10 minutes for most of the rides, yay!

Located inside the Disney Resort in Chuansha New Town of Pudong New Area, both places are really huge, and there’s a lot to offer inside. As usual, we can find all the Disney ornaments starting from Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto, but there’s nothing much of these ornaments at the station, unlike at other Disneyland stations. So, from my experience, it took about 10 minutes walk from the Disney subway station to reach Disneyland Park ticket booth. And remember, if you want to have fun to the fullest at Shanghai Disneyland Park, I suggest you come here early in the morning because the trip took about 1-hour from the Shanghai city.

Shanghai Disneyland Park – Myfunfoodiary Travel Tips:
1. Wear comfortable sneakers because the park is amazingly huge, and you need to walk all day long!
2. Do not bring your selfie sticks, large tripods, big luggage or folding chairs because these items are prohibited at ANY Disneyland Park! If you carry such items, you’ll need to rent a locker to keep the items inside, but keep this in mind. All cabinets are only available in two sizes: small and medium, where the big luggage will not fit in the locker. Alternatively, you can use the Luggage service in the Wonderful Memory House near the entrance.
3. Be there early in the morning! Shanghai Disneyland park is open from 08:00 – 22:00 every day, but they may adjust the opening time according to visitor number. Click here to check out the latest opening hours and park tickets of Shanghai Disneyland Park!
4. Can I bring food inside the Shanghai Disneyland Park? Yes, you can! Once you’re outside of the station, you’ll see Ichigo store which sells a variety of delicious sandwich, pastries, juices, etc. I bought some from this store, because I know we couldn’t spend much time for lunch later and when the security checked our bags, they allowed us to bring food. I bought two sandwiches from Family Mart, and bought some more from this ICHIGO store: the Egg Bacon sandwich (22RMB, equal to IDR 44K), Mango Pudding (15RMB, equal to IDR 30K), and Orange Juice (7.60RMB, equal to IDR 15.2K).
5. Bring your drinking bottle, ‘coz you can refill your water bottles for free at the Water Filling Station

Is Shanghai Disneyland Park worth a visit?

I’ve been to Hongkong Disneyland, and Tokyo Disneyland, and from our experience, the answer is YES! Yes, you must visit Shanghai Disneyland on your trip to China.

Why should I visit Shanghai Disneyland?

1. Shanghai Disneyland is the first Disneyland in mainland China, and this marks them as the sixth Disneyland in the world.
2. It has the tallest theme castle: the Enchanted Storybook Castle, the first Garden-designed zone that connects all seven themed areas, and the first Pirate-themed garden.
3. Rides and games are more challenging for adults if compared to two others Disneyland we’ve visited (Hongkong Disneyland, and Tokyo Disneyland).

How to get to Shanghai Disneyland Park?

From Shanghai: Take Metro line 11 and get off at Disneyland Park Station. Go out via Exit 1, and then walk for about 5-10 minutes to the park. I noticed that some visitors immediately bought a return ticket upon arrival at the subway station to avoid the long queue at night, and I think you should do the same.

Important TIPS:

We almost missed the train to get back to Shanghai. Fortunately, my husband was aware of the last train schedule, and we immediately ran to the station as soon as possible after I bought some food from one of the restaurants at Shanghai Disneytown. Thank God, we made it! That train was really the last train, and upon arrival at Dajishie station, the lights inside the station and all the escalators were turned off. Gosh! So, make sure you take the train at least half an hour before the last train. Unless, if you have more money and don’t mind getting a taxi to go back to downtown (rough fee: >150RMB).

Can I finish all the attractions in the park in 1 day?

From our experience, it’s impossible! Unless, you just play, not taking pictures, and come during the low season, maybe you can do it. But still, I don’t think so. Even when we visited this park on a weekday (less crowded), we couldn’t finish some of the attractions. Because there are lots of exciting photo spots inside this park!

So, which rides should I try first among all the rides?

TOP Priority Rides you should try first:

1. Of course, TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Tomorrowland is the first attraction that we went to at Shanghai Disneyland Park. It was the coolest thriller rides I’ve ever tried in my life! Super COOL!!!! And don’t forget to try Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue, it was fun! We only waited about 5 minutes for both attractions, whoooohoo!
2. If you love adventure, go to the Adventure Isle after that! You can be a real adventurer in the Camp Discovery (not recommended if you’re afraid of the height!), and don’t forget to try the Roaring Rapids. We tried it at night; drifting down the river on the rafts in the evening was so much fun and quite scary for me! Ha-ha..
TIPS: if there’s a very long queue at Soaring The Horizon, I suggest you skip this and go for another attraction.
3. Go to the Treasure Cove area, and queue for Pirates of The Carribean Battle for the Sunken Treasure. It’s also one of the coolest Thrill Rides we’ve ever tried. The amazing sound and visual effects made us feel like we’re in the bottom of the ocean, with Captain Jack Sparrow together we try to steal the treasures of Davy Jones.
4. If you are a big fan of Mickey Mouse, you can meet Mickey at the Gardens of Imagination. It’s a place for you to take a picture with the handsome Mickey. Instead of buying the printed photo, I decided to downloaded Disney Photo App, and purchase for the softcopy files through this app, and voila. Now I have the files in my computer, hi-res image, with Mickey’s signature on it.

Mickey’s Storybook Express – Disney Parade

As usual, we pay attention to the time of the parade and standby on location within 15 minutes to half an hour earlier, to find a good spot to take pictures. At Shanghai Disneyland, dozens of Disney characters come alive with music and dance that will entertain you for 15 minutes. A train-themed parade led by Mickey Mouse

TIPS: check the parade schedule on the GUIDE MAP when you receive it at the entrance.

Ignite the Dream – A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light

Again, Shanghai Disneyland Park amazed us with a spectacular show that illuminates the night’s sky. The place was very crowded in front of the castle, so we moved away from the crowd to get a clear spot to take a video of the Ignite The Dream where the Enchanted Storybook Castle transformed, and Disney magic lights up the night with stunning special effects! The fireworks and laser light show last for 20 minutes above the castle, so I suggest you be there earlier.

A visit to Shanghai Disneyland will not be complete if you don’t buy some souvenirs of Disney’s characters. We spent an hour in the shop after the fireworks show and park were closed, and finally, we bought some, like Mickey’s ring, and Chip & Dale key chains.

A visit to Shanghai Disneyland creates new and beautiful memories again for us.
