[HONGKONG] Christmas Winter Festival and Romantic Dinner at Hexa, Harbour City

It’s no secret that the Harbour City’s annual outdoor Christmas lighting display is listed as one of Hong Kong’s must-see attractions as this mall is known as Hong Kong’s biggest shopping mall until now. I’ve been to Hong Kong, but it’s been a long time, sometime in 2011 during my summer holiday with my husband. So yeah, we’re very excited about this trip, and we never thought that Hong Kong’s Christmas lights could be so fantastic, especially in Winter Festival! Thanks to Hong Kong Tourism Board, we had a wonderful opportunity to experience “Christmas in The Air,” a special Christmas theme that surely can give you a unique and entertaining experience unlike never before.

From November 21st, 2017 to January 1st, 2018, the entire Ocean Terminal Forecourt, which is a new extension of Harbour City (Hongkong), turns into a romantic Christmas setting. I was stunned to see all kinds of giant Christmas ornaments hung above the stairs, from sugar cane, wooden horses, wreaths, gift boxes, and giant snowflakes, wow! It’s like “flying” into a starry sky, and this place was so crowded with people taking photos of the ornaments, including me! Ha-ha…

As I walked down the stairs to the forecourt area, I became more excited because there are 3 giant Santa airships, at 20 meters long and more than 7 meters high, with more than 2,000 LED lights shining in the body of the airship. We can even see the propeller-type car lights spinning on the front and the back of the airship, it’s amazing! The spacecraft is full of Christmas gift and colorful hot air balloons, including the balloon shaped Santa Claus. Another big surprise from Harbour City this year is the first ever public drone show by Mr. George Chan (an expert on UAV systems in Hong Kong), and a unique hoop dance performance by Grace Hui (winner of the Hoopie award 2017 and Hooper of the year – Asia) together with the only LED violin band in Hong Kong, La Luz.

Harbour View Restaurant: – HEXA –

After 50 years, Harbour City Mall continues to grow to provide more exciting experiences to visitors, and this includes more dining options that will excite everyone. On the first night of our arrival to Hong Kong, we were invited to dinner at HEXA, the newest restaurant located at Ocean Terminal new extension area of Harbour City. HEXA has just opened on November 7, 2017,, and they serve a variety of contemporary Chinese food with a modern twist and innovative cooking skills. Inspired by the swinging ’60s and designed by Steve Leung, the seating area is divided into two wings. On the right side of the elevator is the “Love” area, which features dark tones in a range of materials, including leather, faux fur, velvet, and metal. And on the left side wings is the “Passion,” featuring a modern and romantic dining ambiance with clear French windows overlooking the Victoria Harbour.

All the cuisine at HEXA Restaurant is curated by Former Chef of Mandarin Oriental, Harry Hung, and I was lucky to taste some of their signature dishes. We started with 3 different appetizers served in small portions; from Crispy Stewed Thin Beef Slices, Crispy Beancurd Sheets Rolls with assorted vegetables, and Golden Brick Silky Beancurd. The super smooth texture of Golden Brick silky beancurd with a crisp golden exterior made it an appetizing starter. They literally melted in your mouth. Another favorite was the Beef Slices which tasted sweet and incredibly crispy, but it had a bitter aftertaste. While the Beancurd Sheets Rolls tasted similar to those dim sum food, they’re simply delicious and stuffed with assorted vegetables.

Juicy and tender pieces of pan-fried Australian Wagyu Beef Tenderloin was coated with sweet aromatic sauce, and the spicy flavor of the black pepper gave a nice contrast flavor to the whole dish.

It may look simple, but this fish was our favorite too! Do not miss the delicate smooth of Steamed Grouper Fillet as they served it with generous crab meat and red ginger, topped with Crispy Conpoy. The white fish was perfectly steamed, and the soup was just balanced; suitable for kids, and seniors.

I’m a big fan of chicken wings, but the supreme soya sauce on the Pan-fried Free Range Chicken was too salty for me. Maybe I should have them with hot steamed rice to counteract the salty taste from it.

Seasonal Baby Vegetables Shoot was an excellent choice of vegetables, and the freshness of this veggie nicely served in chicken soup with Fresh Euryale Ferox on top. And guess what? A simple dish such as Fried Vermicelli also became our favorites, served with generous crab meat, egg, and bean sprouts on it.

For dessert, do not miss HEXA Pudding delights in the form of a hexagonal shape, and three unique flavors. My favorite was the transparent one, which has a lovely scent of floral tea. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience at HEXA Restaurant, and it’s definitely a romantic place to enjoy dim sum and scrumptious modern Chinese food.

Hong Kong NEW Iconic Destination: Ocean Terminal Deck, Harbour City

Another highlight of my visit to Harbour City was the spectacular views of Victoria Harbour from the 270-degree Observatory Deck named “Ocean Terminal Deck” located at the rooftop of Ocean Terminal new extension building of Harbour City. This area is open to the public for free, and since it was fully operating in October 2017, this place has been the best venue to enjoy Hong Kong’s sunset and evening view of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. In addition to the new F&B, leisure, and entertainment facilities offered in a cruise concept, Harbour City now become a must-visit destination for everyone.

It was a great Winter experience all in one place, Harbour City Mall, a huge one-stop shopping paradise with luxury brand name shops, beautiful surroundings, and some nice restaurants. Of course, there’s something for everyone. I will share more of the best of Hong Kong experience on my blog, stay tuned! Thank you for reading!
