Do you know that the famous and legendary Song Fa Bak Kut Teh in Singapore has finally opened in Ozone Mall, Pantai Indah Kapuk, PIK, North Jakarta? After operating for nine days, this restaurant finally held the Grand Opening ceremony on July 2, 2014 by inviting so many special guests and many media, including me myself as a food blogger. Yeo Eng Song as the founder and owner of Song Fa Bak Kut Teh Singapore gave a welcoming message, and he also shared about the journey of Song Fa Singapore. Hengky Rusli as the passionate businessman behind many successful F&B Brands under Gading Food Group in Jakarta (Marutama Ramen, Fish and Co, Cosi, Motto Motto, Sticky Candy, and Grill Box) brings Song Fa Bak Kut Teh to Jakarta. His partnership with Yeo Hart Pong (the founder’s son) turns out to be a new phenomena in Jakarta especially for all Bak Kut lovers.

There were two Barongsai who also take part in the Ribbon cutting ceremony at the Grand Opening event of this new outlet. This kind of ribbon-cutting ceremony is a symbol of luck in Chinese tradition.

I think most of you already know that Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is a very popular Bak Kut Teh brand in Singapore and has become a legend since 1969. Not only in Singapore, here in Jakarta this place is also packed and full of visitors since it opened. A lot of people are queuing even before the restaurant starts its operation hours. Wow! While watching the Barongsai attraction, the waiter came to me and served me with one of their favorite beverages, named Si Mud Tea, which tastes so much like teh tarik. It’s very refreshing, and I think it’s a good pair when you eat Bak Kut Teh.

Unlike the common herbal brown Bak Kut Teh soup that you might find in other places. Here in Song Fa, they offer traditional Teochew style Bak Kut Teh with its own taste. Everyone can enjoy the light flavor of spicy soup that comes in clear pork broth soup. What makes it more interesting is that you can always ask the staffs to refill the soup! So, if you are planning to visit Song Fa Bak Kut Teh Jakarta, make sure to order one of their signature menu; that is Pork Ribs Soup.

The regular size of Pork Ribs Soup comes with two pieces of ribs, while the large size comes with three pieces of ribs for IDR 88K. The broth is made from high quality pork bone with some fresh ingredients, including garlic and pepper. The ribs are succulent, very tender, and the peppery soup gives me great satisfaction with the pork ribs. The aroma smells good, too! Best eaten with rice, mee sua, or la-mian.

Not to forget, Dough Fritters (In Bahasa we usually called it as Cakwe) and some vegetables are also a good companion while eating Bak Kut Teh. Here is a little secret to what I did yesterday. I just can’t stop to dip the Cakwe into the soup and eat it along with the soup while it’s still warm, so delicious and addicting! Try it! 😀
