If you ever wonder to enjoy all-you-can-eat (AYCE) Japanese Restaurant, now your wishes come true! KOBE by Shabu2 House located in the Street Gallery Pondok Indah Mall has just opened less than two weeks ago. Managed by Shabu Shabu House, KOBE serves a buffet concept that offers an all-you-can-eat food for a set price. The restaurant itself looks spacious and modern with large sofas for diners who come in groups, and the dim yellow light that creates a warm atmosphere inside. There’s also a VIP room and outdoor section for smokers, but the outdoor area has not completed, so diners can only use the indoor area for now.

As a Buffet restaurant, KOBE by Shabu2 House offers a variety of buffet meals ranging from Sushi, Shabu-shabu, curry rice, Ramen, Chawan Mushi, and other Japanese foods including beverages and desserts. Most of the food has been prepared in large quantities for convenience, such as fried noodle, fried rice, Hamburg stew, Yakiniku beef, selection of fried snacks (spring roll, Chicken Karaage, Chicken Katsu, and tempura), miso soup, chinese dim sum, etc. Apart from that, I would like to highlight the Shabu-Shabu part, which is one of their specialty menus.

There are two options of buffet package at KOBE by Shabu2 House; Regular and Deluxe Package. Diners can enjoy an all-you-can-eat shabu shabu, steak, sukiyaki, chicken, drink and dessert on both packages, but the difference is in the beef. They provide striploin beef imports for the regular package, while, US beef imports for the deluxe package.

Deluxe Package Buffet, IDR 249K++ (weekdays)

Deluxe Package Buffet, IDR 299K++ (weekend)

Of course, we tried the Deluxe package because the price is slightly different between the regular and deluxe package (IDR 30K on weekdays). While waiting for the US Beef prepared by the waiter, we took a variety of vegetables, mushrooms, and Udon that are available in the central area of the buffet table. We also prepare the dipping sauce for our shabu-shabu. The sauce counter offers a variety of ingredients like chili, sliced scallions, grated garlic, and chopped garlic, so simply mix and match and find your favorite.

KOBE by Shabu2 House provides a wide variety of broth, such as original broth, tom yum, spicy miso, curry, miso, sukiyaki, kimchi, collagen, corn, and tounyu. Among all the broth, we decided to try the original broth. At first the broth was bland, but after we boil vegetables and more US beef meat into the soup, the broth itself will increasingly become tasty. We liked the soup and the thinly sliced US beef, especially when eaten with Ponzu dipping sauce mixed with grated garlic and chili. It was so delicious!

Cooking Tips:

1. Add the vegetables into the soup from the start, so it can add flavor to the soup.

2. Cook the beef by dipping it in the broth with chopsticks until it changes color, take out quickly and then dip into a Ponzu soy sauce or sesame sauce. Don’t leave it for too long in the broth as it might get too tough.

Sasebo Burger

In addition to the shabu-shabu, we also enjoyed the Sasebo Burger, which is also one of their specialty menus. Sasebo Burger is known as a Japanese burger in Tokyo. It contains simple ingredients, nothing fancy, but it tasted good! A medium delicious bun stuffed with homemade beef patty, a fried egg and black pepper sauce.

US Beef Steak with Demiglace Sauce

Even for steak lovers, you can enjoy unlimited US Beef steaks at KOBE by Shabu2 House. I wish they could serve the thinly sliced beef steak with various salads (corn, carrot, etc.) on the side. However, though the presentation was not appealing compared to other steak menus that we’ve tried in other restaurants, but the meat was perfectly cooked and very tender. We liked both seasoning sauces; demiglace and soyu butter, but you can also try the other sauces such as onion sauce or black pepper sauce.

Overall from our experience, we enjoyed the all-you-can-eat Japanese Shabu Shabu at KOBE by Shabu2 House. We loved the good quality of US Beef and savored its natural sweetness. The soup was also comforting for the rainy season. So, if you’re looking for an interactive food for lunch or dinner, especially AYCE Japanese food, you should visit KOBE by Shabu2 House and give it a try!
