If you frequently pass through Fatmawati, South Jakarta, you would have been familiar with Rempah Wangi Restaurant. I heard that Rempah Wangi has recently opened a second branch located at Duta Merlin, Central Jakarta. Although I wanted to try the new outlet, I decided to visit the Fatmawati outlet together with our old friends in South Jakarta, which is closer to their house. Set in a strategic location of South Jakarta, Rempah Wangi offers a spacious dining area in a warm, and relaxed environment. They also provide enough parking spaces, so it will not be a problem if you want to come in groups with friends, office colleagues, or family.

"Tampak "Suasana

The restaurant’s interior combines elements of traditional Javanese architecture with wooden tables and chairs, sleek modern details, and low lighting. The dining area itself is divided into 2 parts, indoor (non-smoking area) and outdoor (smoking area) with a view of the fish pond and green trees.

"Suasana "Suasana

For centuries, Indonesia has been known for its aromatic and culinary inspiration. In order to meet the needs of Indonesian people, Rempah Wangi offers traditional Indonesian cuisine presented nicely along with great service. All the spices and ingredients used are sourced from Indonesia, and all fishes sourced from self-owned fish farms, ensuring the dishes are extremely fresh at Rempah Wangi. Here, diners can also take a variety of typical Indonesian chili, unlimited (free add sambal, without charge). Oh yes!

"OLYMPUS

Slush Strawberry Mocktail, IDR 30K

Besides regular hot tea, I also ordered one drink that is recommended by the waiter. Slush Strawberry is a fancy drink made of fresh strawberry, plain yoghurt, fresh milk, and strawberry ice cream topped with whipped cream, cherry and grenadine syrup. It tasted nice and refreshing especially during hot days.

"Slush "Slush

Ayam Bekakak, IDR 60K

Bekakak chicken is originally from West Java. Half the size of a chicken was grilled to perfection after marinated with sweet soy sauce and lots of spice blends. It looked similar to other grilled chicken, but the caramel sauce that covered each chicken made this dish become a finger-licking good chicken dish, and the sweet seasoning seeps into the meat. Absolutely delicious!

"Ayam

Gulai Kepala Kakap (Red Snapper's Head Gulai), IDR 75K

I always liked the snapper’s head, especially when cooked with curry spices. The bigger the fish head will be easier to eat because the bones would be even greater, making it easy to separate the meat. This head snapper cooked in coconut milk along with a lot of spices such as lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, lime leaves, etc. Not surprisingly, the fragrant aroma was so inviting. The combination of slightly spicy and sour taste in curry sauce tasted delicious; though, the gulai sauce was thinner, more like a Java-style curry.

"Gulai

Sapi Mercon Batang Sereh, IDR 62K

This Sapi Mercon dish was cooked with a lot of chilies to get a spicy sensation like firecrackers that explode in the mouth. The sliced beef was tender and tasted exceptional spicy! Oh my gosh! I couldn’t stand it, but it was tasty and delicious! For those of you who like spicy food, should try this menu.

"Sapi

Patin Bakar Rempah Wangi, IDR 12.000 per ons

Grilled catfish is one of the signature dishes in Rempah Wangi. The grilled catfish which has been marinated with soy sauce and other spices had a fragrant burned aroma. The fish in this restaurant are all with feed-grade and chemical-free, sourced from their own fish farm. Not surprisingly, the fish was odorless, so dense, yet soft and delicious. A sprinkling of fried onions on top of it adds a crisp sensation to the fish. A must try!

"Ikan "Ikan

Overall, we really liked the taste of Indonesian food served by Rempah Wangi Restaurant. Fast and friendly service, reasonable prices, large portions, and cozy atmosphere, makes Rempah Wangi Restaurant worth a visit by anyone who loves Indonesian food. They also provide VIP room, lounge, bar and function room for any occasion. This makes this restaurant frequented by businessmen, a group gathering, even used for birthday or wedding.
