After we enjoyed Japanese food for nearly two weeks, we finally back to the Indonesian food. Hooray! We came for lunch at Gudeg Ningrat before continuing our trip to a friend’s house, and in this post I want to share the yummy experience with you. Gudeg Ningrat is located at Ruko Alam Sutera, Tangerang, and we easily spotted them on the left side of the main road. It’s true that Indonesia has a wide variety of cuisines. Although we’ve tried many other cuisines; we always come back and crave for Indonesian food again.

As we all know, Indonesia uses a lot of spices, which explains why the menu is so varied, mostly inexpensive and delicious too. Gudeg, for example, is one of my favorite dishes among all other Indonesian food.

Es Kelapa Cao, IDR 16K - Es Kelapa Kopyor, IDR 25K

To accompany our lunch, we ordered this drink. Es Kelapa Cao tasted so refreshing! It’s made from a combination of young coconut and green grass jelly, commonly known as Cincau Hijau in Indonesia. While Es Kelapa Kopyor, which is now rarely found in Jakarta, also became our favorite drink. This drink made with Kopyor Coconut meat, so it tasted a bit savory, fresh and delicious!

"Es

Teh Poci, IDR 15K

As an alternative, I also ordered the Teh Poci. It’s a traditional tea brewed in a teapot and cups made from clay. The fragrant aroma of jasmine and the flavor of this black tea reminded me when I visited Tegal many years ago. As usual, this tea served with sugar cubes and best to enjoy while it’s still warm. Classic and refreshing!

Pastel, IDR 7K per piece & Lumpia, IDR 12K per piece

Besides Gudeg as their main signature, apparently they also offer some snack. We’ve tried the Pastel and Lumpia, which was recommended by them. Fried Pastel (Pastel Goreng) has long been favored by most Indonesian people and even tourists who visit Indonesia. The outer layer was quite crisp and filled with lots of vegetable fillings. Not to forget, the Fried Lumpia (Spring Rolls) tasted delicious as well, I couldn’t stop munching this Lumpia before heading to the main course. It was similar to Semarang spring rolls, but this one was tastier, freshly made, no smelly odor of bamboo shoots, and came with a combination of crisp, sweet and savory flavors at the same time.

"Pastel

Nasi Gudeg Komplit, IDR 40K

Some eating places in Jakarta also offer Nasi Gudeg, but I must admit that this was one of the best Nasi Gudeg I’ve ever had so far! We tried the complete version of Gudeg Rice that consisted of ayam opor (chicken curry), sayur nangka (young jackfruit cooked in coconut milk), fried sambal krecek, marinated tofu and boiled brown egg. All combinations of toppings and the warm watered savory are on top gave a distinctive taste that is second to none. The overall flavor was not too sweet. Instead, there was a slightly savory flavor that tasted delicious suit to my personal liking. The softness of fried sambal krecek made me addicted to it as well. Oh, so good!

"Nasi

Nasi Rawon Telur Asin, IDR 30K

Nasi Rawon Telur Asin is also one of the favorite menu here, so we decided to try this menu. A black soup that made from Kluwek has become a signature of this soup. Kluwak does not have a distinctive aroma like other spices, but without Kluwak, then the soup taste will not taste delicious. The overall flavor was not too salty, so it’s suitable if eaten with a side dish of a salted egg. The soup itself tasted so fresh, served with lots of chunks of tender beef. It was indeed a classic and delicious eastern Java dish.

"Rawon

Overall, we enjoyed all the flavor of typical Indonesian food served by the Gudeg Ningrat since the beginning. The affordable price, comfortable and clean place, and friendly service made us want to come back again with the family to this restaurant. If you’re in Alam Sutera, I highly recommend you to visit this Gudeg Ningrat restaurant and try some of the food recommended above.
