So when we randomly passed by some stores on the Basement floor in Tokyo Midtown to find the Uniqlo store, we found this Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki Paris. We were so curious and ended up to go in to see what’s inside. Even though the place is quite small, the cozy ambiance, minimalist white decor with warm lighting, fresh flowers and a wide variety of colorful cakes, pastries, and chocolate easily caught our eye. Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki Paris is a legendary pastry by the renowned France-based Japanese pâtissier, Monsieur Sadaharu Aoki, who combines Japanese influences and ingredients into French-style pastries.

Paris has been the source of his inspiration, and this patisserie apparently already had many branches, in Paris, Tokyo, Taipei, Nagoya, and even in Fukuoka. Wow!! We were so excited to try some of their recommendations this month. At the beginning, we wanted to dine at the cafe, but they gave us a notice paper, that each person should at least order one drink. We did not plan to linger there, so we refused to eat in the cafe and ordered Pain au Macha Azuki for 420 JPY, Cannelle Macha for 380 JPY, and Symphonie Macaron for 880 JPY to take-away.

The Cannele (Canele) Macha was really good!! Unlike the usual cannele, this tiny French sweet from the Bordeaux area was filled with Macha (green tea) goodness in the center; moist on the inside, and had a nice dark caramelized crust on the outside. I remember when I tried this bread with raisin filling in one of the pastry shops in Jakarta. Here in Japan, Sadaharu Aoki created a wonderful combination of the two most favorite things in Japan; sweet red bean and green tea on a soft brioche bread that gave a new sensation for us. It was simply delicious!

Last but not least, the Symphonie Macaron also tasted amazing! We loved its chewy and soft texture, especially with the generous Vanilla cream filling combined with Macha cream and lots of big and fresh raspberries inside. A must try!

The price is expensive, but it’s worth it! I will surely come here again on my next visit to Japan someday, to explore more of Mr. Aoki’s dessert creations. Overall, we were pleased with all the food above by Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki Paris, and it was a great experience for us. But unfortunately, even though we’re customers; they didn’t allow us to take pictures inside the store. Luckily, we already took some pictures inside before she warned us, hehe.. Yay!
