If you follow the story of my experience watching the WTA Finals 2015 in Singapore, this article is one part of the journey and yes, this is all about food 😀 On the second day, my friends and I were invited to the Conrad Centennial Singapore which is located not far from the hotel where we stayed at the Marina Bay Sands. Located in the heart of Marina Bay, the multi-award winning Conrad Centennial Singapore hotel features world-class business facilities, delectable cuisine, and personalized service. And Oscar’s Restaurant, which is one of the award-winning restaurants at Conrad Singapore was the restaurant that I went for Oysters tasting and buffet lunch.

Oyster Tasting

Before the buffet lunch, Ferne Yap as Director of Marketing Communications from Conrad Centennial Singapore brought us to a VIP room where we can have an intimate Oyster Tasting. I called it an intimate tasting because there was no one else other than us, and I am honored to be one of their guests. And apparently, it was the first time they held an Oyster Tasting at Conrad Singapore. Cool! The girl who was a speaker at the front told us how fresh the France Oyster is at Oscar’s Restaurant. These oysters out of the sea on Monday, and then they travelled to Paris on Tuesday, and on Wednesday they took flight from Paris to Singapore sent directly to Conrad Centennial Singapore. Can you imagine that? So this was the freshest France Oysters that I have tried in my life. Gosh!

"Knowledge

There are three types of live French Oysters in that room, ranging from the Normandes (right side), Fine De Claire (in the middle), and Tsarskaya (left side). Each live French Oysters have a different characteristic. If the American, Canadian, and New Zealand oysters are very meaty, creamy, and thick texture, while most French Oysters are very salty, and not fat (thin flesh). I’ve tried each of them, and each one of them was unique! The Normandes Oyster tends to be salty, but the Fine De Claire Oyster tasted saltier than Normandes.

"France

Tsarskaya Oyster, which is one of the France‘s premium oysters, was the best of all! Tsarskaya Oyster named in honour of the Tsars of Russia, and it takes four years of life on the farm but then gone within seconds in our mouth. Oh my gosh, that’s crazy! Ha-ha.. No wonder oysters tend to be very expensive, and premium! However, Tsarskaya Oysters have a salty note at the beginning, but sweet ending after that. These live France Oysters were extremely fresh; that’s why we all loved it, especially for the Tsarskaya Oysters! If you are a sweet tooth, France Oysters probably won’t suit you. But if you could drink seawater, hey, you should try this! And don’t forget to pair it with your favorite white wine.

"France "Super

There are many ways to enjoy raw oysters on the half shell, and I like my oyster naked (without additional lemon or else). Pssst, here’s a few tips for you to better appreciate the entire tasting experience of oysters! Sip a little of the liquid in the shell to start, enjoy the oyster, and then finish the remaining liquid. If there’s no liquid, it may be a sign that you aren’t getting super fresh oysters. And you probably encounter a few condiments that can be used for the oysters (such as Tabasco sauce, mignonette sauce, lemon, or cocktail sauce). But for a true (purist) tasting experience, I suggest you eat the oysters naturally, just the way it is, which allows you to concentrate on its natural flavors. Adding a spritz of lemon can bring the flavors to a new level, so, feel free to do an experiment to suit your personal preference.

Buffet Lunch at Oscar’s Restaurant

Located at the lobby level of Conrad Centennial Singapore, Oscar Restaurant provides a fascinating all-day dining venue, with modern interiors and comfortable atmosphere. Diners can choose to dine at the trendy alfresco Sidewalk Terrace, but we chose to dine indoors. Its unique “library-kitchen” concept; a semi showcase kitchen with the concept of a library, with open shelves and pockets can stimulate everyone’s eyes with a colorful display of food, ingredients, and bottles.

"Ambiance

There is a wide selection of buffet, ranging from the live station, the International station, the famous Oyster’s bar, Straits of Singapore, etc. I haven’t tried all of them, but for sure, I loved the Oscar’s Laksa, which is one of their signature dishes, followed by tasty Bak Kut Teh, crispy Pork Knuckle, super fresh Prawn Seafood, Oyster, Sushi, and Sashimi. Not to forget, the Caesar’s Salad with Parmesan Cheese was so fresh and so good, and a selection of desserts as well.

Overall, it was a very nice lunch buffet at Oscars at Conrad Centennial Singapore with extensive varieties of food and a wonderful selection of desserts.
