It’s always nice to taste Indonesian cuisine made with fresh ingredients, and just recently we went back again to try some new menus at 1945 Restaurant. Strategically located in Senayan area, this restaurant is cozily nestled on the 3rd floor of Fairmont Hotel Jakarta, which makes this fine-dining restaurant into a nice getaway from the busy streets of Jakarta. If you haven’t read my first post about this restaurant (Grand Opening of 1945 Restaurant + High Tea Menus at 1945 Restaurant), I will share a bit about 1945 Restaurant again.

1945 Restaurant offers an elegant fine-dining in a warm atmosphere, spacious dining area and an impressive setting alongside the impeccable service for diners. With a modern approach to the next level, they transform dishes from Indonesian street food to a world-class culinary experience. As a brand new restaurant under the same management with Sate Khas Senayan and Tesate Restaurant, 1945 Restaurant is one the best Indonesian fine dining in Jakarta because they always find new and exciting ways to surprise diners with its creativity and excellent quality of food. Most of the food that I grew up with is available here, but they elevate the classic dishes into something that I believe will impress you too! From the new menu, we tried the Sayur Bayam (Spinach Soup), Sayur Asem Octopus, Pepes Seafood, Buntel Rice Burger, and Martabak Wagyu.

I was very curious when I heard all the names of their new menu. We had both soup, Sayur Bayam (IDR 70K), and Sayur Asem Octopus (IDR 95K) as a starter, and we never thought that they were so good! The spinach puree served with deep fried polenta, crispy corn crackers with anchovies, and accompanied with fresh salad and edible flower. It was simply delicious! Classic Indonesian food like Sayur Asem that we usually indulge in the traditional restaurant was served with sweet and sour broth, and beautifully presented with the addition of pan seared baby octopus, scallops, prawn, and shimeji mushrooms. I liked all the combination of seafood especially the big juicy scallops in this dish. Although the soup tasted delicious, the spicy flavor should not be overpowering the sourness of the soup.

From the main course, we had Buntel Rice Burger, Pepes Seafood, and Martabak Wagyu. If you love lamb and burger, you’ll love the flavorful Buntel Rice Burger (IDR 110K) served with onion rings made from Turi flowers and accompanied by caramelized seared rice cake and fresh salad. The rice cake was slightly crisp, while the lamb patty was juicy and tasteful. It was unique, yet everything matched to each other.

For the drink, I always look for something healthy from a selection of herbal teas, such as Kunyit Asam Herbal Tea. It’s served warm, soothing, and tasted good. The Blue Pea Flower, which is one of their favorite drinks, tasted lovely and so refreshing!

As you already know, Pepes is an Indonesian cooking method in which food is steamed in banana leaves as food wrappings, and the banana-leaf package usually contains fish meat as the main ingredient. But they are also available in different variants, such as with oncom, mushrooms, seafood, etc. Here, instead of using the traditional banana leaves, they create a unique fillo pastry as the wrappers for the Pepes Seafood (IDR 250K), and surprisingly, the sweet basil pesto complements the dish very well. How crisp and light the pastry was, and the best part was the combination of steamed seafood inside the wrap that also contained scallops in it.

Last but not least, the Martabak Wagyu (IDR 140K) tasted so good! Without leaving the original flavor, it was like a classic Martabak Telur, a traditional and popular dish in Indonesia, which is also known as stuffed pancake or pan-fried bread. Unlike the common martabak, the shape of this Martabak Wagyu is like a round bag made from crispy fillo pastry, filled with the goodness of wagyu beef mixed with lots of scrambled duck egg in it. The Wagyu beef infused with curry flavors, no wonder it was so tasty, accompanied with melt-in-your-mouth Jelly dice which made from the sweet and sour vinegar that usually eaten with martabak. The pomelo salad also added a nice touch to the overall presentation.
