Woohoo! Finally, we’ve made our way to Asiatique The Riverfront in Bangkok, Thailand. Asiatique, The Riverfront is Bangkok’s largest water-front themed retail and new lifestyle night shopping place, which is located just off the Chaophraya river from Saphan Taksin. This open-air mall was opened in May 2012 and they combine sightseeing, shopping, attractions, and dining, all under one roof, and since then Asiatique has become a popular destination not only for the locals but also for tourists.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”http://myfunfoodiary.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Happiness-is-simple-at-Asiatique-Riverfront-Bangkok-by-Myfunfoodiary.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” use_overlay=”off” animation=”off” sticky=”off” align=”left” force_fullwidth=”off” always_center_on_mobile=”on” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid” title_text=”Happiness is simple – at Asiatique Riverfront Bangkok “]

There are various ways to get to Asiatique:

1. You can go by BTS to Saphan Taksin [S6], but eventually, you need to walk again from the station to Asiatique (about 20 minutes walk) or take exit 2 to the pier, line up for the free shuttle boat to Asiatique (free ferry available at 4 pm to 8 pm).

2. We decided to skip the hassle and hop on the red bus number 15 from Siam Center. The bus is FREE, and it stops right in front of Asiatique without changing the line. (If you lived in Jakarta and used to ride a Kopaja Bus that has no air-conditioner, well, the bus in Thailand is like that.)

Since traffic in Bangkok is unpredictable, I suggest you go there at 2 or 3 pm, so you can arrive at this place right on time when Asiatique begins to open at 4 pm. There was a heavy traffic jam, but after 2 hours of traffic, we finally reached Asiatique. Yay!

From the map, I realized that Asiatique is huge! There are six sculptures, and seven wonders of Asiatique you should explore once you’re there.

Shopping Tips 1: Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to walk around this huge open-air market!

The iconic warehouses on the site were home to the East Asiatic freight company, which now turns into a night market that also has a value of a living museum of Bangkok in the past. We are all spoiled with choices! From fashion, jewelry, handicrafts, bags, etc, you name it! You can find souvenirs and local products from low prices, up to high-end local and international designer brands.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”http://myfunfoodiary.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Warehouse-7-Trok-1-Asiatique-The-Riverfront-Bangkok-by-Myfunfoodiary.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” use_overlay=”off” animation=”off” sticky=”off” align=”left” force_fullwidth=”off” always_center_on_mobile=”on” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid” title_text=”Warehouse 7 Trok 1 Asiatique The Riverfront Bangkok “]

And one of the major attractions at Asiatique is this 60-metre high Sky Wheel near the banks of the Chao Phraya River. All visitors can go on board to the Ferris Wheel with a fee of 200 Baht and up there you can enjoy a breathtaking view from the heights. Since it was getting late, and we’re starving, we decided not to ride on the Ferris Wheel, but went around, and find something to eat at Asiatique.

Shopping Tips 2:

I found Asiatique is like a tourist trap, because the prices are higher here than other markets! So I suggest you bargain while you can.

Example:

We negotiate for a 4 Wheel Trolley Bag Pack from this shop (normal price was 2900 Baht, and after the bargain, the final price became 1800 Baht). That means I’ve saved 1100 Baht! 😀

My favorite area was the alfresco dining overlooking the Chaophraya river, but the food in this area was quite expensive. Then we stumbled into this cafe because it looks crowded with local people and the food looks good on the menu. The food is reasonably priced, and there are pictures of each dish, so it’s easy to choose. We ordered some of the recommended dishes; the Shrimp Pad Thai (169 Baht, equal to IDR 67.6K) was delicious, and we enjoyed the Seafood Tom Yum (189 Baht, equal to IDR 75.6K) a lot! The broth was tasty, sour and very spicy, but not that creamy like I wanted. While the Deep Fried Pork Ball (129 Baht, IDR 51.6K) was too salty, it will be better when we eat it with rice. If you would like to try them, just look for the water reservoir tank (picture above), then you’ll find this cafe, Nude Dern Bar. Don’t forget to drink Thai Iced Tea (45 Baht, equal to IDR 18K). Classic!

I asked my mom whether, she wanted to go back to Asiatique if we had a chance to return to Bangkok, and she said, “Yes, I would love to!” Ha-ha.. Yup, me too! But next time maybe we’ll go by uber ride, or try the Free shuttle boat to Asiatique just to get the experience even though I heard from my friend the queue is too long. Overall, it was enjoyable to be here! If you’re planning to visit Bangkok, don’t forget to put Asiatique The Riverfront to your itinerary list! Thank you for reading!
