Talking about Shabu Shabu dish, which one do you like best? Is it Japan’s shabu-shabu, Thailand’s Thai suki, or something else? Just recently, we returned to this place to try a Chinese’s style Shabu Shabu at Khubilai Khan Mongolian Hot Pot. Located on the main road of Jalan Panjang (West Jakarta), Khubilai Khan has become a go-to-place to enjoy a Mongolian-style shabu-shabu cooked in a big ceramic hot pot bowls. As you can see from the picture, not only the parking lot, but the dining room is so spacious, with its dark and modern interior featuring Khubilai Khan’s big painting on the wall.

Just like in other shabu-shabu places, you can find a DIY-sauce station near the entrance, where you can mix and match everything to create in-house condiments. But, here, you have to pay extra for the DIY condiment sauce that costs IDR 15K/person. For the soup, they only have one soup, which is the original broth for IDR 100K/pot. The chicken soup tasted very light (MSG Free, I think), and came with big red dates and some goji berries.

For drinks, we opted for the Signature Homemade Plum Juice (IDR 35K), and Taiwan Winter Melon Juice with Lemon (IDR 35K) which was both refreshing. There are different types of meat, but we ordered Australian Lamb (IDR 98K), Lamb Skewer (IDR 98K, half portion), handmade noodle (IDR 20K), and Puff Pastry stuffed with Lamb (IDR 84K). Since vegetables are the key to make the broth sweeter, so we ordered the mix Mushroom (IDR 78K) as well.

Australian Lamb, IDR 98K

Lamb is by far our favorite meat to enjoy with hot pot. Everything looked good! The Australian Lamb was thinly sliced and fresh for easy cooking. The meat was tender and juicy, and the portion was just enough for two pax.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”http://myfunfoodiary.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Australian-Lamb-at-Khubilai-Khan-Mongolian-Hot-Pot-by-Myfunfoodiary.jpg” title_text=”Australian Lamb at Khubilai Khan Mongolian Hot Pot by Myfunfoodiary” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”on” use_overlay=”off” animation=”off” sticky=”off” align=”center” force_fullwidth=”off” always_center_on_mobile=”on” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Lamb Skewer, IDR 98K for half portion

If you’re looking for something a little different, you should try the Lamb Skewer. These skewers are coated with Chinese spices, the tasted was quite strong, but it’s not spicy at all. The meat wasn’t smelly, yet tender, juicy and flavorful.

Puff Pastry stuffed with Lamb, IDR 84K

In addition to the Australian lamb and lamb skewers, we pretty much enjoyed the Puff Pastry. It was flaky and filled with a savory mixture of tender and seasoned lamb, along with sliced onions. It was simple but so delicious. The size is just perfect for appetizers or afternoon snacks.

The service was attentive. Servers came by from time to time to check out our pots and offered to replenish the soup. Overall, we both enjoyed our meals, and it was a pleasant hot pot experience! But if you like tasty broth, don’t expect too much from Khubilai Khan Mongolian Hot Pot since their broth wasn’t like the common broth. You will depend so much from the dipping sauce to make everything more flavorful to suit your taste.
