Everyone deserves a little break with good coffee and croissants, and I highly recommend you to visit Tiong Bahru Bakery in Singapore. We visited the newly opened Tiong Bahru Bakery branch at 56 Eng Hoon Street (Tiong Bahru Estate neighborhood) last December 2016 with my family, and I think this is not a hidden gem anymore, as this place is crowded with locals, foodies, and tourists. Tiong Bahru Bakery which is operating under the Spa Esprit Group collaborates with the celebrity baker, Gontran Cherrier, in serving a wide variety of freshly baked premium quality bread, pastries, and coffee.

They didn’t have a menu book yet at that time, so we had to queue to order, and pick something on display. I know that Tiong Bahru Bakery is famous for its croissants, so we decided to try some of the new savory menus; the Running Egg croissants and Flying Pig croissants. The croissant size was so small, but all of us enjoyed it because of its crispy texture, light and buttery with flaky skin. While the savory toppings such as half boiled egg with katsuobushi, and pork sausage became a perfect complement the tasty snacks. ""

To accompany the croissants, we also ordered a cup of hot Cappuccino. We loved the coffee; it was pretty bold but just right for our taste. The only disappointment was the Chorizo Baguette. It looks good on display, but we can’t bite the French baguette because the bread texture was too dry and very hard to eat. We also had the colorful and refreshing Salad, light and citrusy, nice for summertime. For 2 savory croissants, salad, baguette, and a cup of hot cappuccino, we spent a total of 25,50SGD (equal to IDR 258K).

Besides croissants, they are also famous for Kouign Amann, so we ordered the set menu: 1 Kouign Amann with Garlic Butter flavor and a coffee for only 8SGD (equal to IDR 80K). As described on their site, Kouign-Amann is a specialty dish of the town Douarnenez in Finistère, Brittany, where it originated around 1860. The name derives from the Breton words for cake (“kouign”) and butter (“Amann”). The round crusty shape is made with bread dough, with layers of butter, sugar, and garlic. The texture was like the croissant, very crispy yet soft, buttery, and so fragrant with garlic smell, simple but so damn good! ""

Overall, we would definitely go back again to Tiong Bahru Bakery for their croissants and Kouign Amann, it was insanely good. But if you want to visit this place, I suggest you avoid the weekend as it’s very crowded inside, it will be hard to find an empty table. Thank you for reading! ""
