I’m always excited to try something new, especially for desserts such as Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream. We spotted Matchafuku Japanese Dessert at Citra 6, Sixth Avenue last Sunday when I went out for dinner with my family. Matchafuku has been opened since December 2014, and we can easily spot them by looking at the eye-catching green-neon signboard with its name on it. It’s located on the second floor above the Meaters Restaurant, in line with Pizza Hut and Eaton Restaurant. I heard from the waiter, that both restaurants have the same owner, but they sell different products on the separate floors.
This cafe was crowded when we went there last night, but luckily we can take some pictures when some of the customers leave the indoor area. Although this cafe is pretty small, but the cute colorful chairs, minimalist hanging lamps, and wall decorations which, influenced by Japanese culture make the ambiance cozy and warm.
We’re so happy when we saw the price list from the menu because all the desserts are pretty cheap. Matchafuku offers not only homemade soft ice cream, but there are also Matcha Parfait, Kakigori, Matchafuku Desserts and some finger foods. For example, the homemade soft ice cream for only IDR 15.000; and you can choose either vanilla flavor, matcha, or mix both. But we skip this one, and ordered something else that is more interesting such as Matcha Cake Parfait, Chocolate Explosion, and Shaker Fries as a snack.
Matcha Cake Parfait, IDR 29K
Matcha Cake Parfait is one of their signature dishes and the waiter recommended me to try this one. It consists of Matcha soft ice-cream, Matcha cake, Shiratama Balls, red bean, corn flakes and Matcha Kanten (matcha flavored jelly that has a similar texture with grass jelly). The matcha soft ice-cream tasted really good, quite strong for me and similar with the other dessert house that serves mostly Matcha (Green Tea) in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area (Sh***k***).
Chocolate Explosion, IDR 40K
Besides the Matcha Cake Parfait, I would recommend you to try the Chocolate Explosion too. A simple combination where vanilla soft ice-cream mixed with Choco Bomb, Chocolate syrup, crushed Oreo, sliced almonds and topped with Milo powder. The Choco bomb, which is similar to Shiratama balls with the same Mochi texture, is filled with a small chocolate ball inside, so yummy! We loved all the combinations so much, not too sweet and refreshing. If you’re bored with the same matcha every day, then, you should try this one. It is served in a big portion, can share up to 2 persons.
Shake Fries, IDR 20K
A simple and ordinary french-fries with spicy chili powder and slices of nori (seaweed). Simple, and good for a snack.
From my overall experience, we enjoyed both desserts that I mentioned earlier in this post, and the french fries as well. Matchafuku Japanese Dessert can be a good spot for everyone to hangout and enjoy the goodness of Matcha Ice Cream at West Jakarta. Good service, cozy ambiance, and affordable price too. I will return to this place someday.
