Both of us finally travelled around Kyoto by bike and our first destination was this stunning Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine. It’s the place that you should go while in Kyoto. The thousands of gates are fascinating! We explored the mountain or hiking trails and the shrine buildings where everything is so attractive. Even though there were a lot of visitors at the temple, the further we go it’s getting quieter. We took a lot of pictures, especially when we were inside the “tunnel” of red gates along the way. It was truly beautiful, unlike anything else we’ve ever seen.

The Giant Torii Gate in front of the Romon Gate at Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine.
There are foxes everywhere because in Japanese culture, they are regarded as messenger spirits.
Stacks of miniature torii gates that were donated by visitors with smaller budgets located at the Worship Hall (Main Shrine) Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine.

The two dense rows of Torii Gates of Senbon Torii (parallel rows of gates or often called as “thousands of torii gates”, formed by bamboo colored red). On the back side of each gate, we can find the donator’s name and the date of the donation, either by individuals or companies. Interesting!
We’ve reached the Okusha Shrine at Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine.
Overall, the thousands of vermilion Torii Gates that makes the climb memorable for us.
Nearby the entrance gate, there are some shops sell various kinds of sweets, such as tsujiura senbei, cookies, ice cream, etc. Not to forget, there are lots of cute and interesting souvenirs that reflects the Fushimi Inari-Taisha itself, for example, the Fox mini doll. Because we went on summer and it was so hot that day, so we grabbed the soft Matcha Ice Cream cost ¥360. We both loved it so much! You should try it, too!
