[NEW SPOT] Chicken Wing and Rice Bowl at Holywings Kelapa Gading, Jakarta

As we all know, Kelapa Gading area filled with a wide selection of culinary destinations, and there’s a presence of a new cafe, named Holywings that recently opened last month. This new cafe which opened during limited hours (from the afternoon until midnight), brought the concept of a beer house where visitors can relax with friends while enjoying a beer or a variety of mocktails and cocktails. Holywings Kelapa Gading has a spacious dining area, although the lighting in the cafe tends to be dark, it’s still comfortable for visitors. Unfortunately, this cafe that consists of two floors did not provide a non-smoking area.

Berry of My Eye, Passion Fever, Cloudy Apple - Virgin Cocktails, IDR 37K each

For drinks, Holywings Kelapa Gading focuses on several brands of beer and surprisingly, the list price of beer was cheaper than in other bars. In addition, they also offer some virgin cocktails, sodas, flavored ice teas, and juices. Vodka, Whiskey, etc. are also available in the alcohol list on their menu, but I only tried a few of the virgin cocktails. Berry of My Eye was too sweet for me while Passion Fever tasted light and refreshing with a hint of lemonade flavor. Cloudy Apple on the right side was my favorite where it has a balance of sweetness in drinks.

Purple Hermit Banquet Holy Jugs, IDR 150K

When you come in groups, you might want to try this. Holy Jugs can be shared up to 4 persons, and we requested them to make the Purple Hermit without alcohol. The combination of orange slices, cranberry juice mix with lavender and lime tasted so refreshing, even though it was too sweet for my personal liking.

Pink Slink Holy Cocktail, IDR 85k - non halal

Pink Slink was one of the alcoholic drinks on their menu. It came in a cute presentation, and it’s made of cranberry juice, fragrant absolute raspberry vodka, and orange juice shaken with lychee liqueur. The alcohol was not that strong.

Chicken Wings with Dips, IDR 58K (12 pcs + 2 dips)

Holywings Kelapa Gading specializes in Chicken Wings menu, served with several dipping sauces. There are 3 types of Chicken Wings; Korean Spicy Chicken Wings (sweet and spicy), Chinese Spice Chicken Wings (crispy fried chicken wings with a sprinkling of Chinese spices such as satay at Shak*o in PIK), and Grandpa Chicken Wings (the original version, crunchy and crisp, one of the best in town!). For 12 pieces of chicken wings, we were allowed to choose two kinds of dipping sauce among five choices of sauces, and we enjoyed all of them. These chicken wings can be a perfect companion to unwind with friends in Holywings.

Holy Skewers, price ranging from IDR 3K to 15K per piece

In addition to chicken wings, they also provide a variety of skewers as a light snack while enjoying a glass of beer or cocktail. Pork belly with Korean sauce, chicken skin with Japanese sauce, pork skin with Chinese spices (Shakao style) are some of their favorite skewers. If you like spicy flavor, you have to try the Beef Tenderloin with their new sauce, called Tinombur which were very spicy but still tasty!

XXL Taiwan Chicken, IDR 25K

XXL Taiwan Chicken was similar to other chicken fillet snacks that can be found in several Taiwanese snack counters in Jakarta. It was crisp and tender, served with a choice of dipping sauces.

Crispy Thai Chicken, IDR 35K

If you want a full meal, they also provide several choices of bowls of rice. Crispy Chicken Thai is one of the favorite rice bowls in Holywings, and I like the texture of crunchy and tender, and the spicy Thai sauce was a good complement.

So, from my experience, this beer house, and skewer house offers food and drinks at a pocket-friendly price if compared with other beer house in town. Holywings seems to be the answer for the young generation to hang out with friends after work hours in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. And if you like chicken wings and craving for a variety of Asian skewers for snacking, you might want to try Holywings Jakarta.
