There are plenty of fancy restaurants in Jakarta, which offers a variety of fancy foods with high prices, but how about an affordable fine dining food? Check this out, guys! I visited the Mockingbird Fine Dining, a two-week-old new restaurant that recently opened in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta a few days ago. In Indonesia, “fine dining” is closely associated with hotel foods, or foods that you eat when you have an excessive amount of money. However, in other parts of the world, “fine dining” simply means well-cooked, plated, and thought the food, a playground where chefs can truly put his heart on a plate.
Many chefs from all around the world are now trying to bring this “fine dining” to the streets, at a price that is cheaper and more accessible ambience. With this belief and concept where food can please everyone, Mockingbird Fine Dining offers diners an affordable fine dining food in a cozy atmosphere, enough for a romantic date and won’t make our wallet empty. Wohoo0!
It was quiet and nice when we went there for dinner. At this time, Mockingbird only provides three types of set menus, and while waiting for the main course, they provide a complimentary bread for us. Each set menu consists of one starter, one main course, and choices of two desserts with price ranging from Rp. 98.000,– nett for Set C (Underwater Fireworks), Rp. 120.000,– nett for Set A (The Flying Goat), and Rp. 170.000,– nett for set B (Cow Me to The Moon). Interesting!!
Welcome Bread
Seared Canadian Scallops
Scallops are my favorite dish and Chef Rian at Mockingbird made these Canadian scallops into an elegant appetizer dish. The scallops had that crisp brown exterior, and juicy texture inside. And I really liked the simple combination of green pea crushed together with the avocado puree that made a lovely garnish to it. It was simply delicious!
Wagyu Beef Tartar
I never knew that Wagyu beef tartar can be so good like this! This delicacy melt-in-the-mouth dish made of chopped Wagyu beef was barely cooked, with a buttery texture and moist on the inside. It was served with a poached duck egg, with a balance of savory flavor from pecorino cheese and cheddar cheese sticks on top. It was delicious, and if you like a rare steak or sashimi perhaps, then you would probably like this Wagyu Beef Tartar.
Angus Beef Tenderloin 100gr
The highlight meal for me was this Angus Beef Tenderloin. It looked simple, but the perfectly cooked beef meat was so flavorful. We liked how tender and tasty the beef was, especially when it comes with porcini cream, swiss brown mushroom, and red wine juice. It served with mashed potatoes and caramelized shallots as well.
Tandoori Roasted Lamb Rack
When it comes to “fine dining”, a lamb rack usually become one of the most desirable options. Here, at Mockingbird, we enjoyed a delicious Indian-style lamb rack and loved it! Lamb rack that has been marinated with Indian spices, then roasted and finished with harrison, raita, eggplant salad, pappernade and roasted potatoes, was so juicy and tender. Although the sauce was slightly spicy, it gave a great balance of flavor overall. I would recommend you to try it!
Last but not least, we also had two choices of desserts from the set menu. The pannacotta was smooth and creamy, with a layer of raspberry coulis adding a hint of sour and color to it. It was a refreshing and light dessert perfect for summer! The raspberry sauce also worked well to balance the sweetness of the chocolate cake.
Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with Berry Coulis
Chocolate Cake with Mixed Berry Coulis
Overall from our dinner experience, we enjoyed everything from the beginning. Mockingbird is an affordable fine dining restaurant that isn’t just reasonably priced but the presentation, taste, service – all of it, would be that such a fine-dining restaurant. Given the quality of the food above, I would recommend you to visit Mockingbird to experience the inexpensive fine-dining food in Jakarta.
