[NEW POST] Best Korean Sashimi Overdose at Kim Sat Gat, Senopati

Have you ever visited Kim Sat Gat? If not, then make sure this restaurant listed on your ‘must visit’ culinary list, especially if you’re a fan of Korean food and fresh sashimi! Kim Sat Gat, which located in Senopati (South Jakarta), is one of the must-to-go Korean restaurants in Jakarta. Although this restaurant is no longer a new restaurant, I want to share the memorable lunch experience with our church friends. It was quite difficult to find the restaurant because they don’t have any interesting or fancy decor like what other restaurants use to have. A simple white signboard with the restaurant’s name being the only clue to finding this restaurant in a residential complex at Senopati. The restaurant itself is not big yet comfortable and relaxing.

Mr. Ardian Kristanto (a very humble person and a successful Christian businessman with missionary heart) who brought us here, made a call ahead to the restaurant to make sure they have a stock of fresh raw fish. To get the best experience, we headed straight to the sushi bar and sat there. At the sushi bar, we can watch the careful preparation of fresh sashimi by the Chef. Here, we had the Special Course (IDR 400K for one person) and enjoyed the Korean Sashimi. The quality of raw fish (sashimi), and the variants of dipping sauce, much fresher, incomparable, and tastier than what Japanese restaurants can provide in Jakarta. It was our first time to try the Korean Sashimi, and I must admit that it was very delicious!!

Chef Samidi served us with five different types of raw fish, such as Salmon, Red Tuna, White Tuna, Shima Aji (Shima means striped, Aji means horse mackerel, a Japanese seasonal fish), and Toro (fatty belly of Blue Fin tuna). All the fish was incredibly fresh, especially the Toro. The fat of the belly that combined with the meaty texture creates a buttery sensation in the mouth, where the flesh of the tuna melted as we eat it. The delicate flavor and outstanding texture of Toro got me hooked! Best to enjoy all the fish with the Korean dipping sauces served on the side; Korean Chili with Soybean Paste Sauce, and Sesame Oil with salt sauce. After that, we attached the fish on the seaweed sheet, or wrapped the fish with vegetables, garlic, etc. It was so delicious!!

Chef Samidi kept adding the fresh sashimi to our plate for several times. In addition to raw fish, we also tried some other Korean specialties. Starting from Pajeon (green onion pancake), Kimchi, Oden, Korean sushi rolls (Kimbap or Gimbap), and Sundubu Jjigae (Korean spicy soft tofu stew). All the food we have mentioned above are part of the Special Course that we had, and everything was really good! They also served us with Bibimbap and Japchae in small portions. Bibimbap tasted good, but I loved Japchae so much. The Korean stir-fried sweet potato noodle (Japchae) was colorful, not too greasy, and very tasty!

Overall, we had a great dining experience at Kim Sat Gat. Last but not least, thank you very much Mr. Ardian and Ps. Hanna Kristanto, our beloved senior Pastor of IFGF GISI Belleza for the lunch treats and recommendations. God bless you and your ministry!
