My trip to Hong Kong this December 2017 felt so much different than my first visit to Hong Kong in 2011, especially during Winter festivals from December 1, 2017, to January 1, 2018. Sponsored by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Hong Kong’s skyline shines with more glamour than usual as buildings get dressed up for the festive occasion. From the joyous atmosphere of Christmas at Harbour City, Hong Kong’s largest shopping center, and two spectacular multimedia shows — the new version of A Symphony of Lights and the winter version of the Hong Kong Pulse Light Show, all of them became one of the most unforgettable Christmas experiences this year 2017.
New Version of A Symphony of Lights
Available from Dec 1, 2017, to January 1, 2018
Showtime: every evening at 8 pm
Duration: 10 minutes
A Symphony of Lights which also listed in Guinness World Record, is a world-renowned and iconic feature of Hong Kong’s night sky, which features dynamic rays of light sent out in rhythm from 40 buildings and different locations on both sides of the Victoria Harbour. And this new version incorporates a variety of exciting lighting effects such as colored searchlights, lasers, and all-new beam lights sent out like a special fan-shaped lighting effect from the roof of the Central Government Offices and the Revenue Tower.
This show is complemented by music from Asia’s leading classical orchestra the Hong Kong Philarmonic Orchestra, providing visitors with a thrilling and unforgettable sound-and-light experience. If you have a plan to spend Christmas during Winter in Hong Kong, do not miss this show!
Best location to view the show: Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront
To get a better experience, you can download the A Symphony of Lights mobile apps, so you can listen to the music simultaneously when the show is on.
If you come on Friday night, you will see the “World Dream” cruise ship with its LED screen and lights on the cruise. It’s the first time for the cruise ship participates in the show, and we’re lucky to be able to take some photos with this cruise ship and high-rise buildings with Hong Kong Island as our photo background.
New Version of Hong Kong 3D Pulse Light Show
Available from Dec 1 – 28, 2017
Showtime: every evening at 8:10pm, 8:40pm, 9:00pm, 9:20pm, and 9:40pm
Duration: 8 minutes per session
So, immediately after the A Symphony of Lights show (SOL show), the winter version of Hong Kong 3D Pulse Light Show begins at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The best place to view this show is from Hong Kong Cultural Centre Open Piazza at Tsim Sha Tsui. We’re amazed by the 3D display, because it was very entertaining with colorful dragons that try to find the missing numbers which are scattered across Hong Kong landmarks. And the dragon eventually finds them and restarts time to save Christmas.
Story background:
With Christmas just seconds away, a sudden snowstorm hit the city, covering the Hong Kong Culture Centre in snow and ice, and blowing away the numbers on the Clock Tower, stopping time just before Christmas arrived. A clever dragon went all out to find the missing numbers, which were scattered over various Hong Kong landmarks. They eventually found them and brought the Culture Centre and the Clock Tower back to normal, saving Christmas.
