3 Weeks Traveling to EUROPE

1. Flight return tickets Jakarta – London Heathrow – Jakarta around Rp. 14.000.000,-/person by OMAN AIR (1x change at Muscat International Airport)

2. Visitor Visa UK: 124 USD/person (standard service; visa valid for 6 months, include with VFS agent fee)

3. Biaya Visa Schengen: Rp. 1.400.000,-/orang (for France Embassy = 60 EUR / IDR 949.400,-/person, exclude fee for TLS agent)
(urusan dokumen, seperti biasa harus isi form dulu via online, kemudian kita mengurus dokumen sendiri ke kantor TLS Contact di Kuningan). Untuk mengurus Visa Schengen ini, kita sempat “ditakut2i” oleh petugas dan ditawari untuk membayar lebih untuk fasilitas Premium dimana bila ada dokumen yang kurang, user dapat submit dokumen via email saja, tidak perlu datang (tidak perlu buang waktu kesana lagi), dan dokumen dapat disubmit ke mereka sampai jam 7 pagi esok harinya. Tapi karena kita pede dokumen kita lengkap dan sesuai dengan apa yang diminta, kita pun mengurus Visa Schengen ini dengan jalur biasa (normal). Dari pengalaman kemarin, kita baru sempat submit kelengkapan dokumen fisik di hari Selasa pagi tanggal 20 Agustus 2019, we received the announcement on Friday, 24 August 2019, dan alhasil, kita pick up Passport dan Visa Schengen di hari Senin, 26 Agustus 2019. Pengambilan Visa dapat dilakukan langsung di Loket Pengambilan yang ada di lantai dasar (tidak perlu mengantri). Puji Tuhan, Visa Schengen approved untuk kita berdua, yeay!

4. Eurorail Pass = 868 EUR = total Rp. 12.832.000,- for two persons
Eurorail Pass dapat dibeli online atau langsung ke travel agent yang menyediakan. Kita membeli Eurorail Global Pass Flexi 10 Days (valid for 2 months) untuk kategori kelas 2nd CLASS! Asiknya di sini, kita langsung menerima fisik Tiket Eurail Pass untuk dibawa kesana, jadi kita tidak perlu deg-degan menunggu Eurail Pass dikirim dari luar negeri yang bisa makan waktu up to 1 week. Perlu diingat, Eurail Pass ini hanya berlaku untuk turis yang akan ke Eropa dan hanya dapat dibeli di negara sendiri, sebelum terbang ke Eropa.

*Eurail Global Pass Flexi adalah tiket terusan Kereta Api Eropa yang berlaku tanpa batas jarak di 1 hingga 31 negara di Eropa dengan sistem pemakaian harian secara fleksibel (tidak berurutan).

Untuk koneksi internet, kali ini kami menggunakan Simcard Vodafone mobile card 20GB 4G Data, dapat dibeli di VFS UK Kuningan City Lantai 2 Jakarta. Dan sebagai cadangan, kami juga membeli Simcard Internet Connection dari Provider 3 sebagai back-up apabila salah satu simcard memiliki masalah koneksi ketika berada di daerah tertentu di Eropa.

Where to Stay in Europe?

Paris, France

  • where: at Hotel Metropol
  • cost: Rp. 2.450.000,- for 2 nights + Rp. 117.000,- for city tax 2 persons 2 nights
  • + near to Gare du Nord station, small room but clean, good air circulation so it feels very cold in the room in autumn, clean toilet, high speed wifi, friendly staff, daily cleaning, good if you come in the cold season / autumn season
  • – no AC, unstable cold/hot water flow in the shower, no safe deposit box, no tea and coffee maker, and there’s no bottle water in the room. Every time guests leave the room, we have to put the key in the receptionist. Check-in time at 3pm, and check-out time is 10am!!
    Notes: they have a small elevator that can only fit 2 persons with 2 big luggages

Interlaken, Switzerland

  • where: at Basicrooms, Alpina Hotel
  • cost: CHF 330 + CHF 21 for city tax 2 persons 3 nights
  • + good service, good breakfast, high speed wifi, have elevator, daily clean up room
  • – location is quite far from city center, no AC, pillows too flat, unstable cold/hot water flow in the shower, sharing bathroom and toilet outside the room, no amenities (only 1 small soap bar is provided), no tea and coffee maker, no safe deposit box, and there’s no bottle water in the room. Check-in time at 3pm, and check-out time is 10am!!
    Notes: we got bitten by bed bugs during our stay

Rome, Italy

  • where: at Alexis Hotel
  • cost: Rp. 2.120.000,- for 2 nights + €12 for city tax 2 persons 2 nights
  • + close to Roma Termini station, Air Con in the room, friendly staff and owner, daily room clean up
  • – no elevator, no amenities, no tea and coffee maker, no safe deposit box, and there’s no bottle water in the room. Check-in time at 3pm, and check-out time is 10am!!

Salzburg, Austria

  • where: at Wolfgang’s managed by A&O
  • cost: €118.80 for 2 nights + €6.20 city tax 2 persons 2 nights = €118 in total
  • + Close to Salzburg HBF station, have 2 elevators, spacious lobby and dining area, spacious room
  • – no AC, there is no good circulation in the room which causes the air in the room feels very hot even when we sleep at night this fall, super slow service when check-in (it seems they understaff ‘coz no one at the bar, so guests who wants to get their Free Drink as a complimentary for giving up the room service has to wait for the receptionist done checking in all customers in the queue line), check-in time is very late at 3pm and check-out time is too early at 10am (it’s too expensive just to use the room for 19 hours), unstable Wifi connection, no amenities (only 2in1 soap and hand soap and towels), no safe deposit box, there’s no bottle water in the room

Prague, Czech

  • where: at A&O Prague Rhea
  • cost: Rp. 1.117.000,- for 2 nights
  • + big lobby, and lift is available in this hotel, clean room, clean bathroom, room is secured with access card
  • – ATM is available but totally not recommended to withdraw from this ATM, no ventilation, no AC, no fan, no tea/coffee maker, no safe deposit box in the room, no free bottle water, no amenities, location is far from the city centre. Check-in time is very late at 3pm, and check-out time is too early at 10am!!

Amsterdam, Netherlands

  • where: at easyHotel Amsterdam Zaandam
  • cost: Rp. 2.420.000,- for 2 nights
  • + close to station, lovely neighbourhood, clean room, room is secured with access card, and equipped with AC (air conditioners)
  • – Check-in time at 3pm, and check-out time is 10am!! No luggage storage, guests must pay for the storage which is located at the lobby, no amenities (only basic soap is provided), no safe deposit box, no tea/coffee maker, no ventilation

Brussels, Belgium

  • where: at Best Western Hotel Royal Centre
  • cost: Rp. 2.089.000,- for 2 nights
  • + big lobby, lift is available and secured with access card, clean and spacious room, big and comfortable bed, room is equipped with air conditioners, tea/coffee maker available, safe deposit box and amenities is provided. Although the location is not very central, it’s easy enough to reach Grand Place and other attractions, 10 mins walk
  • – nothing to complain about this hotel
