Nishimura Restaurant, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, is back with their latest menu innovation “The New Style Sushi Promotions” which will be available until 23 February 2014. Most sushi usually only consists of salmon and tuna, but this time they offer some modern sushi containing duck liver, beef, and other ingredients that are worth trying. Nishimura serves authentic Japanese cuisine, prepared with a combination of fresh ingredients and traditional Japanese cooking style. Every visitor who comes through the alley of the restaurant will certainly be shaded with natural rocks and hear the rush of running water from a bamboo rod on the right side.
Nishimura offers a different dining atmosphere that can not be found in other Japanese restaurants. They provide sushi bar, tatami area, teppanyaki area and dining table. The visitors are mostly native Japanese people but there are also many Jakartan’s and foreign tourists. This restaurant has also received an award as one of the best restaurants in 2014 from Indonesia Tatler recently.
Edamame, IDR 48K
Edamame is a typical Japanese snack which I usually order as an appetizer while waiting for the main course.
Aburi Hotate Avocado Spicy Mayo Maki, IDR 118K
Though this sushi looks simple, but it tastes good. A simple sushi roll of spicy sauce with scallop and avocado on the inside part.
Five Kinds of New Style Sushi, IDR 258K
Another simple form of sushi that will not disappoint you. There is Maguro with Red Wine Sauce, Yaki Kaki with Miso Sauce, Salmon Skin, Aburi Hotate Uni, and Wagyu Tataki with Wasabi Sauce served in one plate. All of them are so delicious!
Kushi Age Unagi Cheese Sushi, IDR 118K
This menu has also become my favorite since that night. A ball of sushi containing pieces of cheese and grilled eel in it. Tempura flour coating on the outside makes it feel unique. Sweet savory tastes even more delicious when eaten with shoyu sauce provided.
Yaki Paprika Nigiri Sushi Beef Maki, IDR 68K
Assorted grilled beef on paprika served with yakiniku sauce. The yakiniku sauce tastes salty and sweet with sesame seeds scents complementing the beef sushi.
Foie Gras Maki Sushi Fry, IDR 118K
A big portion of deep fried foie gras sushi roll. The sushi rice is too thick. It would be better if they give more foie gras or reduce the amount of rice. However, I like the bread flour coating on the outside of sushi. It tastes crispy and delicious when eaten with shoyu sauce provided.
Yaki Surume Ika Sugata Sushi, IDR 78K
Grilled whole squid in sushi rice. It looks simple and feels good to eat along with the brown sauce that tastes a bit like peanut sauce.
Mango Pudding, IDR 72K
The pudding has a beautiful and silky texture with yummy mango flavor and served with red bean paste and a couple of fruit balls. It’s one of my favorite desserts. Recommended!
Matcha and Ogura Ice Cream, IDR 48K
Other dessert which is also my favorite is the Matcha ice cream. It’s a premium Matcha Ice Cream! Must try!
